1. Here is an article about that....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=%2Fnews%2F2003%2F10%2F26%2Fwirq26.xml

In Iraq, a Muslim country, abortion has long been illegal - and socially taboo - except in medical emergencies. But since the collapse of Saddam Hussein's rule turned the established order on its head, Baghdad has witnessed an upsurge in promiscuity - and the emergence of a practice too risky to carry out under the former regime, with its network of spies. Abortion has become readily available.

Samira has already performed nine abortions in the past three months, two on women with large families who could not cope with another mouth to feed, the rest the result of what she calls "illegitimate pregnancies".

She said:"Many women, knowing that I was a midwife, approached me looking to get rid of pregnancies. I do it when I feel that it is necessary."

2. Very sad... More from the article...
The fundies freaks in this country are such hypocrites! :grr:

~snip~

Iraqi tradition dictates that a single woman who becomes pregnant brings great shame on the family, which can salvage its honour only by killing her and her lover. Dr Hazim said many women have been raped or compelled to prostitute themselves after the war.

"Women didn't know where their husbands were. They needed money to feed their families, or they had relatives and neighbours who took advantage. There was an increase in the sexual activities of the women in Iraq."

If his experience at the Al Aliywa hospital is typical of the rest of Baghdad, Dr Hazim calculates that at least 500 unapproved abortions have taken place in the city over the past three months.

Prostitution has become widespread in Baghdad since the end of the war, a number of brothels have opened and several areas now function as red-light districts, particularly Al-Bataween Street. Under Saddam, women found working as prostitutes were liable to be executed - although well-connected pimps regularly provided girls for the corrupt Ba'ath Party ruling class.

3. In times of stress and danger, animals will instinctively breed.
It was no different after 9/11. The act of breeding is consoling for us.

Humans are animals too.

4. i saw a report once that said there were 50,000 more abortions in US
with bush in than there were with Clinton. The reason was suppose to be that people didn't have jobs and money and felt that they could not afford to raise the child.

6. I don't have a link, but abortions are UP during Bush's reign
It's not because of the poor economy, the unemployment, or any other economic factors. It's not George Bush's fault, or the Republican Congress', or the Conservative "Supreme" Court's fault. It's the Democrats fault.
