Canadians vote for Tommy Douglas as The Greatest Canadian
CBC has been running this very cool show for the past few weeks called The Greatest Canadian. Tonight they revealed the top three: Tommy Douglas won, followed by Terry Fox and Pierre Trudeau. Tommy Douglas was the father of Medicare, Canada's socialized medicine program. Terry Fox was a cancer patient who became an activist, running cross country despite having lost a leg to cancer, and raising 400 million for cancer research, and Pierre Trudeau was, well, Pierre Trudeau, brilliant P.M. Some of the other candidates were David Suzuki, Don Cherry, Alexander Graham Bell and Wayne Gretzky. Gotta love Canada.
