the best was yesterday on MTP when al sharpton said something to the effect of "do you have the whole bible? or do you just read parts of it?"

Sharpton drove his point home again and admonished Falwell for selectively using the bible.

But the best segment was Cooper quizzing Falwell on JF's stance on gay families. Having read here at DU that Cooper is gay, it was an interesting segment. I thought Cooper did a good job. If anything else, he was gutsy and sharp to jump on Falwell's faulty thinking. Falwell did not wear his usual smugness. I have to agree with Mike Malloy when he asseted that JF looks unhealthy and must know he's in physical decline.

They seem to be a favorite talkshow pairing lately, and clearly Sharpton knows his Bible and his Constitution better than Falwell.

he is not a case for being an agnostic. He's a hate monger, pure and simple. Christianity is simply the vehicle he's chosen to advance his prejudices.

re: during ron reagan's talk show back in the 80's, falwell was among the 3 guests and somehow the question of masturbation came up and after they all amitted to sinning ron asked falwell directly: "Reverend, do you jerk off?" or something to that affect....Jerry hemmed/hawed and tried avoiding answering but Ron asked again until finally falwell admitted he did indeed masturabate sometimes (i think james caan was other guest and said 'well now we see you're not a liar")

how could so many believe his form of christianity? im not even christian, im a jew, and i even know the basic teachings of christ. if anything falwell should be a Jew for Jesus because he cares more about some the old testament than Jesus' teachings. in fact im still baffled how anyone can equate Christ's message with the GOP. its the exact opposite. its like im the only to escape the chains in the cave and see that the images had been just shadows from the fire. (Plato reference). why do so few see the obvious? false prophets they are. I think God is disgusted by those who distort his words for self-gain more than any other sinners with the exception of murder or rape.

some of the true believers think that a little sin/big sin are same....separation from god etc....and if a sinner guilty for a little sin, then maybe if he commit big big sin (help bush say) maybe he forced finally to repent etc....iow falwell is trying to save himself by doing evil things ....otoh maybe jerry's just a self centred old fool who uses christ's name to get lotsa toys and luxury to enjoy(?)
