My take on Evolution theory.
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 10:18 PM by VTMechEngr
Everyday, a fundie goes to work invoking electron theory when they use a battery to start the starter on their car. They have never seen an electron, but in theory this is how electricity flows. Guess God turned the engine over by hand.

The Coil in the car uses the theory of magnetism and Induction to produce a large electrical voltage for the spark plugs. I've never seen why 2 pieces of metal stick together. God must have pushed them together.

The XM satellite radio uses The theory of relativity to keep its time proper when its in orbit. The GPS navigation device uses this to keep in sync with the many satellites it uses to pinpoint your location on the planet. But hey, its just a theory; thats actually God singing to you, and wait, is that a tree in front of you?

You arrive at work and catch an elevator, and fight gravity to the 4th floor. What if the cable broke? Oh, its not a worry, your a Fundamentalist Saved Christian, God controls the elevator and not that satanic theory of Gravity.

We don't see electrons, or Magnetism, or Gravity. We can use or see the effects of each, but we cannot actually see why they work. But we still take them as being true.

Every day, a fundie takes advantage of electron theory, Atomic theory (power), Magnetism theory, Gravitational theory, Relativistic theory, and Yet, when it can be shown that Animals change and adapt constantly, its JUST A THEORY.

What could be more hypocritical?

Or put it this way.

Does the guy falling from a plane think gravity is just a theory?

Does the man strapped to an electric chair think electrons are just a theory?

Did the Japanese in Hiroshima think Atomic theory was just, well, a theory?

Did the Guys in the building think Einstein ws wrong about the theory of relativity right before a GPS guided cruise missle slammed into them?

Did sailors think that a compass was just a Satanic tool since Magnetism is just a theory?

Do I think you are a Moron because you refuse to teach, learn, or study the Theory of Evolution: Yes. But hey, maybe you'll get a Super Germ and learn first hand, this wonderful new theory.

And if anyone is wondering, Yes I am a Christian. But I'm also a Mechanical Engineer.

when anyone tells me that evolution is "just a theory" i say "so's gravity".

that usually shuts them up.

2. It is impossible to debunk beliefs.-
Dozens of philosophers and talented logicians, have tried it for centuries. Marx is the only one to have solved the problem, in a Gordian manner. Try to talk some sense of reality to an opium addict...

3. I've a joking theory that science is powered by magic.
Goes like this. Magic works as long as someone believes fully that it will work. Science works because it gives early researchers a strongly logical reason why things should work just so. Once they can demonstrate something works, others see it working and believe it too.

I usually think about this while travelling in a car. It's usually followed by me doing my utmost to disbelieve that a car can possibly work. I mean just imagine a piston going up and down 2000 or more times a second. (33 times a second? Get real!)

Try as I might, my cars keep running. Must be a flaw in my theory. :)
