Progressive Democrats of America - A New Party? Look Here -
Good people on board so far, under blogs - good policy so far.
Hmmm.......

Take a good look at the Progressive Democrats of America... http://pdamerica.org /

This new caucus movement intends to take back the Dem Party from inside and we need your help. Join... with Dean and Kucinich supporters, Indies, Greens and ABB Dems who fell behind Kerry as a last ditch solution - like we need another billionaire President. Instead we’ll rekindle the voice of dissent from WITHIN the Democratic Party.

I'm thinking we should combine blogs/forums with them! Listen to this:

ACTION SUGGESTED TO REACH DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP
Filed under: Vision Dem. Party Platform— kspidel @ 11:20 am
Some creative and hardworking Kerry volunteers are dismayed that Kerry has just about vanished, and the Democratic National Committee (the DNC) has been really quiet about all the voting and counting problems with this election… Incredible machine problems have emerged (one in Ohio recorded negative 21,000,000 votes!) Lots of voting place hassles, misinformation, appalling waits, etc, have also been documented.

So, because they can’t get the Democrats to respond to them (one has gotten 2 funding appeals since Nov. 2, though…) these Minnesotans are suggesting that people who want the Democrats to come out aggressively as the Party for Clean Elections and Voter Enfranchisement send back their Kerry t-shirts, buttons, etc to the DNC.

They aren’t conspiracy theorists; they’ve just all been using computers (and cars, washing machines, etc) too long to believe that ANY machine is 100 per cent INFALLIBLE. And they want to assure CLEAN ELECTIONS and ACCURATE COUNTS in the future.

They’ve put up their suggestions and a creative form to send to the DNC at http://loyalopp.tripod.com/fairvote.html

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG QUICKLY. LET’S SWAMP THE DNC!

FIRST THINGS FIRST. Without Election Integrity guaranteed, our democracy is DEAD

1. Are they a seperate party or an affiliation within the party?
It looks like they just want a voice in the dem party and dont really want to form a new party.

2. I think that we CAN depend on machines
As Bill Maher says, banks don't count money wrong and slot machines know exactly how many nickels you put in.

5. You can only trust computers when you don't need to trust them.
With ATMs, you can check your statement.

With paperless electronic voting machines, there is no check.

13. Did you know that slot machines must have their software--
--on file with the state? And that anyone who thinks s/he's been cheated can demand state investigation? I for goddam sure would like those things to be true of our voting process, but they are not.

Besides banks giving you a receipt, they are under strict audit rules and their machines and software are constantly being banged up against reality, millions of times a day, 24/7. This tends to remove bugs that cause trouble.

By contrast, we vote very infrequently. How badly would cars suck if nobody drove except on one day a year for a couple of hours?

4. I signed up
Thanks for the info! I've been looking for an alternative. I believe we're primed right now for a political party with some oomph. Combining the various groups is a step in the right direction. Everyone seems to be feeling a little shellshocked and not sure how to get things moving again.

Right on!

Namaste,

RV

10. That would be interesting and might even lure me back to the Dems
Here's the inter-related problem I find with the Democratic and Green Parties:

The Dems have a great political apparatus that know how to run campaigns (not win them, apparently), and they clearly have strong legislative experience. However, I feel they have alienated their progressive, activist base with a lot of their kowtowing to corporate interests.

The Greens are very committed activists that are firmly rooted in the grassroots; however, aside from some wins in local elections, they don't have a very strong national political apparatus and they don't have legislative experience and clout like the Dems do.

I'm a former Democrat who, after 20 years as a Dem, has recently joined the Greens and these are my observations of both parties today. The two would benefit tremendously from a union. Maybe PDA is something close to such a thing.

14. What I visualize is grassroots people getting organized to the point--
--that the corporado leadership splits off like an iceberg off of Antarctica. The difference I see is that now Greens are mainly issue people. They have won at levels where it is possible for a candidate to personally contact most of the voters in a given political subunit. Aside from that, they mainly don't do elections. They don't have PCOs, for one thing. For another, the attendance at a typical LD endorsement meeting in WA state has maybe 10 fewer people than the entire Green Party state convention.

15. I recently joined the Greens also...
However, if there was a Green Democratic Party then I would join that. I wish progressives like Kucinich and Dean declared a new party like the Green Dems...

I have been increasingly disappointed with the Democratic Party since 2000. In fact, I'm convinced that the Democrats play the same role as the Washington Generals in a Harlem Globetrotters basketball "game." Both, by design are destined to lose.

7. Not a new party
Just grassroots within the party, alligning with other grassroots organizations like DFA, to "take over the party."
