"Our Leader" George W. Bush?
Just received this note from my assistant Andrew Ackerman about an almost-surprising tribute to Geroge W. Bush, supreme commander. At first, I found it hard to believe Andrew's report, but there is a photo (make sure you click on the link). And though the website featuring this photo is rather out there, Andrew says he saw it with his own eyes.
David:
Hey there. I'm going to try to get into a 10 am Supreme Court argument, unless you need me in the office this morning. Other than that, I want to tell you about these creepy signs along the highway in Orlando that I saw over the weekend on Interstate 4. That's the main drag running through Orlando. The signs feature a large headshot of a smiling Dubya next to gigantic large words: "Our Leader." There's a photo of one of the billboards--with an awkward story by a group I've not heard of-- here. Anyway, it looks like the ads say ClearChannel Outdoor paid for them as a public service. ClearChannel Outdoor is part of the media empire that owns all those radio stations. Its website says it has half a million billboards and signs across the country. I don't like obsequious, petty references to Orwell when describing the Bush administration or the weird things people do in Red states, but this is a stunning example of something right out of 1984. Or pre-2003 Iraq.

Or present-day North Korea....Check it out yourself and let me know if you spot any of these "Our Leader" billboards elsewhere.
