Time to email/call all Democratic Politicians re: New Freedom Initiative.

Please post any communication with Dems here, or Repubs, for that matter. If the Dems think this is acceptable, then they do not deserve our support. In other words, if I learn that JK thinks this is OK, then it is time for me to start eating tinfoil for breakfast and voting Green or Libertarian all the time.

Some wonderful DUer's have posted about this for a long time and I thank them for their alertness. Here is another thread about this issue.

I don't have children, but if I did, the government would NEVER get their hands on them like this. NEVER. I don't care who supports this...if they do, I do not support them. I can not think of a more fucked up thing than this, except maybe mandatory implantation of RFID's in all citizens.

This can not happen. This is worse than the Patriot Act. Much, much, much worse.

It has been my pleasure to meet you on a few occasions. You impressed me greatly with your words and your support of Dennis Kucinich. I have always been happy, very happy, to vote for you.

Unfortunately, I have a very serious question for you.

I've recently learned of the New Freedom Initiative and the attempts by Representative Paul Allen from Texas to block it. I was shocked to see that you voted against Mr. Allen's amendment. Please take the time to explain your vote and your feelings about this issue.

I worked in Western Psychiatric for several years, in a children's unit, and I can say, without reservation, that this is the worst idea I have ever heard. Surely by now you must be aware of the dangers of over-prescribing psychiatric meds, especially to children. I can not think of a greater violation of the rights of a citizen than mandatory psychiatric screening. I could go on and on about how wrong this is, but I prefer to hear from you instead.

I have also read most of the report, and have not found any evidence yet that these screenings will be mandatory. I'm talking primary sources.

It's bad enough they put that "Channel One" to put commercials and crappy news info-tainment into our kids' classrooms.

The minute they tell my kid he has to be on Ritalin or Prozac just to go to school will be the day we move back to Japan. It's unacceptable.

Yes, this must stop. Have you all heard about the other piece of legislation where Drs. will be required to report any prescriptions written to the govt? Yup, if Bushco has their way, your government will know what prescriptions your Dr is writing for you. This is in the works, although don't know what it's called.

My question is...we all know this has passed and been funded at $20MM. Has anyone heard this reported in the MSM? How the hell is this possible?

New Freedom, "the future of mental health care in America," is being rolled out on a state-by-state basis, according to Power, who added in an Aug. 13 speech that the federal role is to "motivate, facilitate, and compel change."
