the IRS and revoking non-tax status
In an article at CNN about the resignation of Kweisi Mfume, NAACP president steps down, I found a very troubling paragraph.

"For an organization to keep its tax-exempt status, "leaders cannot make partisan comments in official organization publications or at official organizational functions," according to an October 8 letter to the NAACP from the IRS office in Louisville, Kentucky."

If this is the case, then why are they not going after numerous churches?! Seems to me this is nothing more than institutionalized racism! If the NAACP loses its tax-exempt status, I see things getting VERY dicey!

What do YOU think?!

1. the IRS began an investigation of the NAACP before the election
over their supposed involvement in partisan politics. It's incredible considering the churches that supported Bush. Tavis Smiley covered this on his show a month or so ago, before the election. I didn't see it covered elsewhere.
This reminds me of the Nixon administration using the IRS against Nixon's foes. Bush is a vengeful president, and clearly has no hesitation to turn the power of the state against those who speak out against him. Joe Wilson is but one other example.

4. I agree!
Shrub is a hateful person! In four years, he couldn't appear before the NAACP, unlike every other president since the organization's history. I think he is a racist and no better than a Klansman! Perhaps, instead of lighting a Christmas Tree on the WH grounds, he should light a cross! At least then, he would be honest for the first time!

3. How about Falwell, Robertson, and the rest of the zealots???
They don't even attempt to hide their partisan politics...why aren't they investigated by the IRS??? How about a little hidden camera work in some of the evangelical churches for the 2006 elections???

5. You don't have to go to their churches....
They go right out on public TV making their views known......render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's (sp) and to God the things that are God's.........Jesus said this and He knew not to mix the two..........

6. They were who I was thinking about when I posted
Why are they not under investigation?! How is this not blatant discrimination!? It is just another example of how the right-wing wields WAY too much power in the WH!
