If not, why not?
If so, why?

1. I'm not terribly familiar with the U.S. Virgin Islands.
If they pay taxes to the U.S. government than damn straight they should have the right to vote.

7. I think they have to become a state
I could be wrong, maybe the two concepts are not that connected. But I know that at one point PR had the opportunity to vote on statehood - but it was non-binding and didn't result in any changes.

More info on Puerto Rican statehood here:

10. Thanks thats interesting
I did not know if they paid to the IRS but they pay FICA and get Social Security and Medicare.. so that makes sense somewhat.

Good article.

8. Does anyone know anything
about the taxes and the services? Are the subject to military draft if there is one? What do we know about what they have to abide by?

I admit I know diddly about it, but saw this on sorryeverybody and my heart broke.

Maybe if we champion the rights of people in the territories we can get some sanity back into the electorate as well.

9. Statehood? Hmmm...
Would they be a red state or a blue state?

We don't need more red states.
