Jury rules 9/11 was two attacks
Jury rules 9/11 was two attacks

By The Associated Press

December 6, 2004, 6:05 PM EST

A federal jury ruled Monday that the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center was two occurrences for insurance purposes, meaning leaseholder Larry Silverstein stands to collect up to $4.6 billion.

The verdict in U.S. District Court in Manhattan was the latest twist in Silverstein's efforts to double his $3.5 billion insurance policy on the trade center complex.

Silverstein lost a first trial on the issue earlier this year, but a separate jury said Monday that Silverstein is entitled to collect a double payout for nine insurers who covered him for $1.1 billion.

The verdict means Silverstein could ultimately collect $4.6 billion for the Sept. 11 attacks, lawyers in the case said. Silverstein still must go to a three-person appraisal panel to collect the money, and the insurers are also expected to appeal the decision.

In a statement, Silverstein said he was thrilled with the verdict and cast it as a victory for all New Yorkers because it secures additional money to rebuild the trade center complex.

"I strongly felt, and the jury agreed, that the destruction of the twin towers by two separate airplanes at two separate times was two separate occurrences and that these insurers have an obligation to pay their fair share to help make Lower Manhattan whole again," he said.

2. Pentagon wasn't on Larry's insurance policy.
That's all this is, a dispute over insurance coverage.

4. Can't lose faith in the jury system. Used to do insurance defense
work and insurance companies SUCK. So glad they are taking the hit, although it will be appealed.

5. I thought that all along
Two different planes were flown by two different pilots into two different buildings at two different times. True, they happened to be part of the same overall "attack", but still ...

Almost 3000 people died during that one attack, yet we would never classify it as one death.

8. How much could Larry Silverstein have made if the towers...
...never were attacked and he and his company would have had to find permanent tenants to rent all of the space in the two towers plus WTC#7 which was being vacated? I think the towers were only about 60% rented as well. That was a big nut of vacant space to carry for the next 20 to 30 years.

9. AND WTC7??????????
ARGH. This man is pure evil. He admitted, with his own mouth, that he decided to "pull" World Trade Center Building 7.
See here. http://www.serendipity.li/wot/wtc7newspaper.htm

In a stunning and belated development concerning the attacks of 9/11 Larry Silverstein, the new controller of the destroyed WTC complex, stated plainly in a PBS documentary that he and the FDNY decided jointly to demolish the Solomon Bros. building, or WTC 7, late in the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.

This admission appeared in a PBS documentary originally aired in Sept. of 2002 entitled "America Rebuilds". Mr Silverstein's comments came after FEMA and the Society of Civil Engineers conducted an extensive and costly investigation into the curious collapse of WTC 7. The study specifically concluded that the building had collapsed as a result of the inferno within, sparked, apparently, by debris falling from the crumbling North Tower.

In the documentary Silverstein makes the following statement;

"I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, "We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it." And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse.

(This can be heard in the audio file http://VestigialConscience.com/PullIt.mp3 (also at http://sirdave.com/mp3/PullIt.mp3). Thanks to Sir Dave 'tmo' Soule for transfering this from the video to an MP3 file. "America Rebuilds", PBS Home Video, ISBN 0-7806-4006-3, is available from http://shop.pbs.org/products/AREB901/.)

So, Larry, if wtc1 and wtc2 were 2 separate attacks, what of wtc7? A 3rd attack? Part of the first attack? Oh, that's right. You demolished the building yourself, kinda hard to collect on the insurance that way. :grr:

There is also a video clip of ol' Larry saying this quote, don't have a link. Google it.
