Why do I keep doing this to myself..

There's a military forum that I use to post to, but I don't think I've posted but like 3 times in the past few months cause of the garbage that gets spewed there, but yet day after day I still read through the garbage of simple mindedness. It makes me wonder how I came out of the military so differently than others. I mean how can people go through some of the things that we vets do and not question leadership or orders given. That will still blindly follow someone just because he is the CinC.

These are vets who think that those troopers who refused to follow orders by transporting fuel in unsafe conditions should of gotten slammed for refusing orders, even flaming that soldier who asked the "number two guy in the CoC a hard question" and not showing Rummy the proper respect he deserves.

I know I should know better, but I can't stop..although now I'm just a lurker and look for other vets who share same beliefs, only times I do post are when a bud is getting attacked by the masses. But lately its just been dragging me down reading all the crap there..

1. Take Heart
The same seems true in coporate america at times. People don't want to believe that something they are involved in is 'wrong' - and critizing the leader can lead to an internal admission of that to some. But this is not rare - consider kerry here on DU. When he became the candidate we focused on the good in articles for him and the bad on * - we became biased for a cause we believed in. It is natural, so in this sense how some act on the site you refer to is not all that odd.

3. ever check out
David Hackworths site?

don't know that he's got a forum, but he's SEAL from vietnam and consistantly criticises bush's war, among other things.

5. Interesting, I don't think I've been to his site before

Just opened it up, got me to thinking about how from my own perspective it seems that those of us who served with Special Operations seem to be a little more, I dunno if disillusioned is the word. But I've talked with many former Rangers and other buds from Special Forces and we all seem to be the ones who question the government more. I've always found it an interesting irony of sorts since we're the ones who gave a bit more of ourselves for the country, but also see the slightly darker side and carry the burden of keeping its secrets as well.

6. Evolution is not moving forward or backwards... it just is.
Depending on the environs different characteristics will be chosen. Our last 1000 or so years have chosen for certain types, and thought processes.

Perhaps we will be 'selected out'.

By that I mean 'homo sapien sapien'

7. I often ask the same question...
...As I'm about to finish my 13th year in the Navy, I can't help but wonder why so many of my shipmates are so adamantly Republican and blindly throw their support to Bush. The oath of enlistment I took said I had to obey the orders of those appointed over me. I don't ever remember reading that I had to like them or believe what they tell me.

8. here's another forum for veterans that you might enjoy reading
www.vaiw.org (Veterans Against the Iraq War). You need to look down the left side of the page for "Discussion Forum". I'm not a veteran but my husband is active duty and I sometimes read the threads there. They are all anti-Bush and can't stand Rummy.
