My plan to end the Israeli/Palestinian conflict
*Note this isn't serious, but I have at times pondered over why don't we do this to end the stupid bickering between these two peoples.

Okay, so the biggest issue of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is the holy city of Jerusalem. What this amounts to is that people on both sides of this are dieing on a daily basis over some religious buildings. My solution, tell everybody living around Jerusalem that they have a week to get the hell out of there and we will buy them a nice new house wherever they want (it will be much cheaper than supplying the Israelis with guns and bombs for the next two centuries).

Then we nuke Jerusalem. It's gone, there's nothing to fight about, everybody is happy. The end.

1. hmmm...
I think that would just make both sides (all 3 sides - the US Taliban too) even more pissed.

I think that the UN should leave NY, and put their headquarters in the heart of Jerusalem (which translates to City of Peace, kind of like Los Angeles is the City of the Angels) then everyone has a huge incentive to make it a 'city of peace'.

2. Not a solution, unfortunately...
the ultra-Orthodox would move back in as soon as the fallout settled and begin rebuilding the Temple on the ruins of the Haram al-Sharif. Levelling everything in the city would be, in a way, giving some of the extremists exactly what they wanted.

3. No way.
I have luckily/thankfully been to Jerusalem/Tel Aviv/Israel.
Jerusalem left me in awe! My X-mas carols came true. A lot of people feel the same way for many different reasons, but Jerusalem needs to be saved. I know, Dems vs. non-dems or folks of different opinions, but I am more attached to having/preserving Jerusalem than I am to anything else, including politics. And I am not religious.

4. My solution is more profitable

We declare Jerusalem the property of Disney incorporated and turn the entire holyland into a giant theme park of world tourism.

Then we hire all the inhabitants to work as living props, give them fake guns and bombs, soft stones and lt them reenact the terror of the holy city to keep its identity and flavor alive as a lesson for the future forever.

That way everyone can go on living as they are, the voilence continues, but noone gets hurt.

Jerusaland - A Land of Cultural Heritage for Chiristians, Jews and Muslims!

6. Jerusalsem is the most incredible city on earth
If you'd been there, you could never lightly suggest the city's destruction. I'm Jewish, but ultimately I don't think that Israel should have sole control over the city. The main problem, in my opinion, is the damage that the more extreme palestinians would do to the jewish areas of the city if control were ever handed over. In 2000, the city of Nabulus was handed over to the palestians, and an angry mob destroyed several buildings around Joseph's tomb. The only possible solution in my mind is to either make Jerusalem a UN controlled city (difficult because neither side trusts the UN) or to make it a self contained entity like the Vatican (difficult because a government uniting all 4 religions would be near impossible to organize).

7. I don't really think we should destroy the city (as noted)...
It's just so god damn frusturating that people are killing each other over something so tangible as a city. BTW I'm Jewish as well (err by virtue of the fact that I was born and raised that way)>
