Lawmakers inserted a record 11,000 earmarks into this year's budget at a cost of $23 billion, another record.

Mind you, this doesn't come from a Congress controlled by so-called tax-and-spend Democrats. Nope, these are fiscal conservatives running the show.

Republican Rep. Jeff Flake of Arizona, was more contrite about all the pork.

"It's obscene," he admitted. "We have taken it to a whole new level. We frankly look worse than the Democrats did in their heyday."

1. The only shock is that it isn't higher....

But you could ask the general public a week or six months from now who spends all the taxpayer money and they'll claim its Liberals. Talking points pounded into pointy heads goes along way.

2. They spend like they are on a coke and Exstasy speedball...
They went and got us in a war with no real point, in spite of their lies about the reasons, the level of their pay-to-play politics is unbelievable, their desire and moves to intrude upon the private affairs of Americans is manifold and manifest...

And then, they ask us to believe that they are Conservatives.

I would laugh is I wasn't crying.

My only solace is that already, you see little glimmers of their center not holding, of them turning the knives on each other. Small, modest? Yes. But it will pick up. It will be fun to watch.

3. Congresspeople always look like punks on spending
Because as much as they might want to talk about, in a generalized way, how we need to cut spending, they never ever ever ever mean that they should cut spending in their own district. Because, in general, congresspeople want to go on being congresspeople.

4. Tax and Spend vs Don't Tax and Spend
Whenever someone now goes on about a tax and spend liberal (this seems to be happening less) or about how republicans are more fiscally conservative I mention stuff like this.

Would you rather have someone who taxes to pay for services and pork, or someone who doesn't tax, and just rides up the national debt for services and even more pork.
