What are your predictions for 2005?
Economic: inflation will begin to become a major problem (again).

Courts: CJ Renquist will resign and Bush will nominate Scalia to
replace him.

Politics: In a crowded field for the DNC Chairmanship, Howard Dean
will emerge the victor.

Entertainment: Jamie Foxx will be named Best Actor for "Ray"

The Presidency: After a post-election, post-inagural bump, Bush's
approval ratings will fall to the low to mid 40's by mid-year as the war in Iraq and economy continue to take hits.

Your predictions?

2. Here it goes
By mid summer the US will be into a severe economic crisis due to the large national debt built up by the * administration. * will blame it all on terrorism ,and tell the American people that the only way out of it is to defeat terrorism. He will then try to initiate a draft and possibly expand the war in the Middle East. If the people buy into this, God help us.

3. Yeah, but Chief Justice don't really mean squat . . .
And I think putting Scalia forth is a sucker bet for the Repubs. Then his record gets the 1000W spotlight, and his toady relationship to the Prince of Toads, and his sicko pronouncements here and there all get a light bath, making lots of 'pukes uncomfortable.

'Course the same could be said of Thomas -- now there's an embarassment for you.

Anyway, my predictions:

1) Renquist croaks and Bush tries to push through some fundie wacko who gets ripped to shreds - but who might also get onto the court.

2) Iraq just keeps getting worse, with more civs wiped out, including hundreds during the run-up to elections. At some point we cut and run.

3) Terrorism and tragedy sweep across Europe as islamofuckers blow up 10-100 innocents at a time in wave after wave of bombings.

4) Amurrica gets a wave of 1-10 innocents/each incident terrah attacks from lone wolf types who profess to be doing so because of intolerable insults to Islam.

5) Economies around the world totter under the oil shock (first prices, now availability)

6) Democrats start getting a) their poop in a group and b) more bad news to work with (oh joy!) and position themselves to cream the Repubs in 2006.

7) Bush sags to the 40s and below, because after all, he's an INCREDIBLY INCOMPETENT F*CKWIT!!

4. I like your predictions
dammit, I am hoping to catch RAY at the dollar theater - I had so looked forward to seeing it but then a series of crises hit me and precluded me having a fun time at the movies. Did you see it? I would love for Mr. Foxx to be nominated for best actor - I recognized his talent way back on In Living Color and have long been a fan. Yes INDEED.

As for me, all I would like is for 2005 to be better for me than 2004. Alas, I hold few hopes that it will be better for the troops or for America.

5. I'm not exactly an optimist:
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 10:14 AM by Minstrel Boy
1. A WMD attack on US.

2. Iran will be said to be harbouring the al Qaeda leadership which planned the attack.

3. A bill, titled something like the "Liberty Act," will be introduced, which will amount to a new draft.

4. A joint US-Israeli air assault on Iran.

5. Iran will retaliate with Sunburn missile attacks upon US warships.

6. Russia, China and India declare their support of Iran's right to self defense.

7. Then things get bad.

10. OK, here are some for 2005
Economy: GDP growth continues at an anemic level--under 3%. Job creation is a joke (ie it doesn't exist). Inflation rate begins to increase, but does not surge abruptly.

Politics: Bush's approval ratings hang in the 45% range. He successfully blames congressional Democrats for blocking his "critical" Social Security "reform". More tax breaks for the very wealthy are passed.

Iraq: The elections are held and the US puppet Allawi "wins". The bloodshed gets worse, contradicting another Repug lie.

Supreme Court: Rehnquist goes. Scalia replaces him as chief justice. An anti-choice fundie (probably a Hispanic Catholic) is nominated and appointed to the court.

Public Opinion: A majority remain in support of the Iraq debacle. A majority believe Bush is doing a good job in the "war on terror".

General: Ann "the man" Coulter accuses Dems of treason. Lush Limpballs wins his case in Florida to suppress evidence of drug abuse.

11. Baring Something Unquestionably Miraculous
(1) I will remain unemployed if I continue to reside in crazy red f*cking JOklahoma;
(2) My cash reserves will be further depleted and those that remain will have even less purchasing power;
(3) My house will decline in value because working families will continue to find it increasingly difficult to purchase a home and because there will be a net outflow of people leaving Tulsa town to find employment;
(4) The crazy 'christian' fundie wackos will continue in their present state of demented and hateful denial;
(5) Iraq will become bloodier still and the insurgency will become more resolute;
(6) The ability to speak, to acquire information and news and to ask questions will become further restricted;
(7) There will be increasing conflict between the fundies and the true fiscal conservatives;
(8) I will have completed my book on faith and politics (even if I have no publisher);
(9) I will have found greener grass and taken the opportunity to moon the Tulsa city limit sign on my final trip out of town.

13. Well, not optimistic, nor entirely political either...
In Janurary, elections in Iraq go on without a hitch, according to our press at least, whoever is in charge now, stays in charge. That's Bush anyways so it doesn't really matter.

By Bush's inarguration, PPB of Oil will reach $60.

February, March, April The dollar continues to fall against the Euro throughout the year, debt continues to mount.

PPB of Oil will increase from $60 to possibly as high as $70.

May, June, July, August Depending on weather conditions, especially heat waves, massive or rolling blackouts will occur sporadically throughout the country as NG generators are not able to keep up with demand for air conditioning. This causes cascade failures due to infrastructure problems, as well as heat related deaths, similar to what Europe experienced during its heat wave. A USSP justice or two may retire/die, Bush replaces them with stealth candidates, ie religious fundies.

September, October, November, December OPEC announces they cannot keep up with demand, cuts production below quota. Market panics, PPB of Oil spikes over $100. The president blames terrorists, calls for an immediate draft to invade the bastards in Iran, possible terrorist attack, WMD or not, doesn't matter, on our soil. As a response, the president also starts building up the stategic reserve in oil in the country, leading to gasoline prices well over 6 dollars a gallon. Drilling in ANWR also commences with no resistance, though it is useless.

Widespread protests begin in earnest against the draft, as well as protesting the government's lack of response to energy/debt crisises. Possible riots and looting in most major cities by the end of the year, with standard panic growing pandemic, president declares martial law.

OK, I'm done. Sucks doesn't it?
