I don't know if it's legit, but it sure makes a good read.

Excerpt from Dec 4, 2004:
.As I have said before, the Bush people, backed by the CIA, the FBI, the NSA and many other security agencies are going to clamp down, if they can, on the internet. Companies can use it if they have certain controls placed on their machines but unless a civilian can prove he or she is “reliable” they might as well throw their computers away because there will be no more internet.

There are fully-prepared orders on this, just waiting for the Imperial signature and the media blitz is gearing up. The media will leap with joy over this because the internet is ruining their business so you will see all kinds of the Asccroft-Ridge type of bleatings about Saving Our People from the Evil Ones (for this read the Bush Administration)

This is tentatively called “Operation Clarity” but the only clear thing is that the Fuehrer has been reading Mein Kampf again. This will probably never happen but it will if they have their way, believe me.”

2. at this point...
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 01:22 PM by Guarionex
I believe ANYTHING about this President...my sensibilities and "it couldn't happen here" thought processes have been already stretched to their limits....

although, judging by past prophecies from the "Voice"...he's been wrong on the postponement of election and of Dick Cheney quitting the ticket..

Take with a big grain of salt.

3. Wouldn't work
there are too many people who know how to network, all you need is a server with a remote connection outside the country - say Canada or Mexico and you're back online. The Govt. can't control the internet because they don't own it or control the means of distribution.

5. This is sure fun readin'
It's like Nick Nolte's diary...absurd, funny, and utterly entertaining even if you have a tinge of disbelief. I don't care if it's real or not--I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

6. Check out "trusted computing"
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 01:39 PM by Viktor Runeberg
Cisco and the other router makers are building features into their routers that can block all packets that don't have the right secret keys included that prove that they're from - well, whoever the router makers and system administrators what to limit Net communication to. The arguments for this include cybersecurity, spam and virus blocking and so on, but it also will mean that our government can order the majority of routers in the US to be set to prevent the sort of open Internet we're used to.

Yes, there will be local pockets where this doesn't work. If you for instance set up an urban wireless network you'll have open communication within that, just until you have to connect with someplace else over one of the main Internet backbones - whose routing depends almost totally on Cisco machines.

There are also "trusted computing" changes being introduced to individual computer CPUs, so that there can be limitations of what software you can run on a specific machine. Again, this is being sold as virus defense and the like. But it would be possible to force the use of such CPUs in order to have your packets route through the Net, and to also have remote administration enabled on those CPUs so that they can be remotely reset for different levels of access restriction, and to disable or enable them to run specific software.

Right now, there are still way too many older routers and CPUs for this to work. But in a few years, since hardware generally gets replaced every three years and these "features" are just now becoming standard (even if not switched on yet) it will be fully feasible for the government to effectively order Net use severly restricted. This is well-known over at slashdot.org - search for past discussions on aspects of it if you're in doubt.

8. And the fact that the 'net is competing with Turner and Murdock
makes it all the more feasable.

"Freedom" doesn't involve getting something for free. Expect the government to back the news networks wholeheartedly.
