coming out this year

I am an athiest

(just practicing for my official announcement to family when they ask me to go to church again this xmas)

The best thing to say to religious people who just really haven't thought about things is "I'm just not religious." Most of them can accept that. After all, they probably have a lot of friends who say they believe but never set foot in a church except for marryings and buryings.

People react in very funny ways when you tell them you're an atheist. They've all bought the line that atheists are terrible people, that the lack of fear of a hell has made them all completely immoral, that you can't trust them in any area. It's usually a good idea to sugar coat it unless they're thinking people who know what ethics are.

Of course, announcing I was an atheist to my parents at the ripe old age of ten got me out of Catholic school, so it aint all bad.

I recommend going with a friend, and smoke a little pot beforehand. Just don't get the "laughs." hehe
