Terry McAuliffe went after MoveOn (and Pariser) Today
With his gloves off. What a loser. They're trying to stifle and disenfranchise progressive sentiments.

I heard it on Ed Shultz' show and Ed's no fan of MoveOn either. Sounded like he never really knew anything about them. These "centrist" dems or repub lites, whatever, are ripping into the heart of progressive dems. They're trying to skewer dean, Moore, MoveOn, McKinney and anyone else who is pissed off that we lost and may well have been cheated again.

Fuck 'em. If they choose a milk toast centrist loser to chair the DNC I'm gone. Back to the Greens or anyone with a vision.

3. This pisses me off. This kind of crap gives the impression that
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 08:46 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
there is no room for liberals/progressives in the party. I thought we were the 'party of inclusion'? To me, this is self-defeating behavior on the part of the Democratic 'leadership.'

The DLC was doing the same thing recently (I watched the re-run on C-Span this weekend of the meeting they had on "the future of the Democratic Party."). They were basically bashing Michael Moore, basically saying he doesn't speak for the Democratic Party. Hey, DLC, I got news for you: YOU DON'T NECESSARILY SPEAK FOR ALL OF US, EITHER!

But McAuliffe was brutal..."I don't know this punk" was the gist of his ire, but he was skewering Pariser.

4. Why in the hell doesn't this guy just go crawl under a rock? He has been
worthless to the democratic party. He's not a democrat, not in by book. He's Zell Miller, but without the cojones to come out of the closet and say it publically.

9. Why? He took exception to MoveOnPac saying
That We bought it, we own it and we're taking it back. (The Democratric Party).

Pariser's email was tough and while I can see McAuliffe being upset I happen to think Pariser was right. I don't know if there are archives of the Ed Shultz show...i can only handle him for a bit but I cauth this one.

10. Well, it's good in the theoretical.
But in the real world, it will lead to another Repuke win in 08. The secret is the hard grunt work that it takes to build a majority in the party leadership that does the picking.

13. Yeah, that's why I became a dem this year.
Too hard to start from the outside. We need to create a momentum shift from within, starting at the local level. McAuliffe pissed me off with his rant because they seem to want to minomalize the progressive side of the party. Dean brought me here and they stillwant nothing to do with him. Maybe he wouldn't have been the best Presidential candidate, but he sure got people energized and out making things happen.

We need a lot more of that and a lot less Corporate whoring.

15. When the GOP was wiped out in 64, it took over a decade . . .
. . . for the committed activists to remake their party. I think, with the internet now, things can be speeded up. But it still is going to take grunt work, and activists worming their way into every echelon of the system. Otherwise, the suits just win by default.

representatives and senators are pure bred gutless wonders.

Whether it's leading the DLC or running for President in 2008, Dean presently is the leader I'm ready to follow.

18. Would Dean be content with being a functional reformer . . .
. . . without being the titular head?

After all, why do WE want Dean there to begin with instead a McAuliffe-ite? Basically, to raise clean money, instead of corporate $$$-cum-handcuffs.

If Dean were willing to work as a second-banana-in-title and produce results immediately, he would wield real power at a choke point in the system. But if he is just interested in the glory/TV appearances, how is he any different from the other candidates?

(Confesssion- I admit my total cluelessness about the inside baseball of political parties, and the practical day-to-day workings)

24. Fine if it could happen
But real power is more important. I dont know whether if is doable. But if Dean could slyly look like he is willing to be a party man (and a doer, instead of a yakker), it seems to me that he could quietly become the effective, de facto party head by amassing a clean treasury that would make heads spin. More importantly, he would be the power broker and gate-keeper for the new progressive majority.

While all the traditional suits are satisfied playing their game, Dean could be quietly busy taking over the party mechanism. I dont know if his he is willing to forego a few ego strokes early on. But when his leadership would come to fruition 18-24 months from now, he would have that too in addition to the death grip on the DNC. That's how they use to do it in the old Kremlim. Take the reins and look like the hired help for awhile, and then become the top dog with all the levers at your command.

21. you know, schultz isn't a bright man
that's what i always get after listening to his show. he kept cutting off the moveon guy and misinterpreting his words.

and he keeps tossing hillary clinton's name out and aking "are you going to tell me that she doen't represent the base?"

well, yes, ed. as someone who voted for the bakruptcy bill, the war, was part of an administration that screwed labor with globalization, and has an addiction to corpoate cash, she's one of the worst DINOs out there

Schultz is clueless. too bad they can't extend hartmann's show longer and cover him up on our station

26. A smarter man would have made that move days ago
when MoveOn put out their statement of owning the party. But no, Terry McAwful sat around twiddling his thumbs and pondering the universe.

Idiot. An outside organization publicly said it owns the organization he is supposed to lead, and he sits there silent for days and days?

Again, idiot.

Hope MoveOn moves McAwful and the DLC on out of the DNC.

31. MoveOn is part of the grassroots, just as DU is part of the grassroots
If the GOP grassroots said it owned the GOP party, the GOP leadership would have had a responding public statement out within the hour.

Misleading headline aside, Terry just sat there with a "Duh" look on his face when the grassroots said he was not in control. Now days later McAwful finally responds, and worse yet responds on a show which is not even part of the mainstream.
