Is Amazon Blue
I am wonder if amazon.com is blue. I went to the choose blue website and it claimed that amazon was blue. However, Eric Alterman said it was a red company when he was on the majority report. So does anyone know if amazon.com is blue or red?

You can look up their specific donations on opensecrets.org.

For 2004, individuals seem to have given more to democrats, but the largest contributions are to their PAC, "amazon.com" which gave 61% to republicans.

Their philosophical position may be blue, but the donations run red. Choose the Blue FAQs has a statement about that, might be worth reading to understand where they are coming from.

2. I think their business model is pretty blue--they have a lot of potential

to force price compeition.

I also read an interview with the CEO. He talked about how they have almost no advertising budget. They've discovered that word of their promos and their new features spreads like wild fire. I forget the exact numbers, however, I believe he said that the the average business spends 70% of their resources shouting about their business and 30% innovating, whereas Amazon can spend all their money innovating (and price competing).

Less money advertising means less profit for the media -- which I consider a huge social benefit.

Incidentally, although they generally have good prices, they're not as low as they could be because they charge a premium for their incredibly high reliability and customer service numbers. The consistently rank number one in those categories.
