'Patriotic' Country song uses FAKE military fans in promotion. SEE LYRICS
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 04:35 PM by UdoKier
Yet another 'patriotic' country song by yet another crooner who doesn't know the difference between real patriotism and self-righteous jingoism poserness...

But the angle here is they used fake troops calling in to radio stations to get buzz going.

how republican. how red-state. how typical.

http://www.tennessean.com/local/archives/04/12/63065885.shtml?Element_ID=63065885

Here are the 'patriotic' lyrics to "The Bumper of My SUV" (!!!!)

Song Lyrics

I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car
Says United States Marines
And yesterday a lady in a mini-van held up a middle finger at me
Does she think she knows what I stand for
Or the things that I believe
Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of My SUV

See, my brother Chris, he's been in for more than 14 years now
Our dad was in the Navy during Vietnam
Did his duty then he got out
And my grandpa earned his purple heart
On the beach of Normandy
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of SUV

But that doesn't mean that I want war
I'm not Republican or Democrat
But I've gone all around this crazy world
Just to try and better understand

Yes I do have questions
I get to ask them because I'm free
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the Bumper Of My SUV

Cause I've been to Hiroshima
And I've been to the DMZ
I've walked on the sand in Baghdad
Still don't have all of the answers I need
But I guess I wanna know where she's been
Before she judges and gestures to me
Cause she don't like my sticker
For the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

So I hope that lady in her mini-van
Turns on her radio and hears this from me
As she picks up her kids from their private school
And drives home safely on our city streets
Or to the building where her church group meets

Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

I know for a FACT that NONE of us have flipped off anybody for having a USMC sticker on their car, even a Stupid Ugly Vehicle.

Has this stupid bitch ever considered that it might be her lousy driving that's provoking everyone to flip her off?

By the way, the lyrics to this song are crapola. Free? Lady, where have you been the last 4 years?

2. Another little hint for the hodad who wrote this "song"
You might want to look at what some of your favorite politicians are doing to insure that their children can go to private school on the public's dime.

8. Let's see...
She drives an SUV, automatically assumes she's being flipped off for her sticker and not her crap driving or her "Die, liberals, DIE!" sticker, she automatically assumes that mean, finger-flipping anti-war people have their kids in PRIVATE SCHOOL (?), and she thinks we're still free just because she "can ask questions", and she claims to not be partisan?

PUH-FUCKIN-LEEZE.

7. I suspect there's some deception in the song itself
particularly this line:

I'm not Republican or Democrat

Come on, Chely, you're insulting the intelligence of country music fans.

9. I doubt the origins of this song
After seeing what this singer will do just to get her song on the air (encourage her fans to lie and deceive others), it really calls into question whether the incident the song is about even happened at all.

10. Sounds like BS.
They must have been flipping her off for her more freeperish stickers.

Or her drunken, crytstal-meth-addled driving.

11. I love the analogy, that Marines are reponsible for public safety...
"And drives home safely on our city streets..."

I love servicemen and women, I do, but the tendency to thank them for everything is getting absurd.

16. I agree with you
And I served, but it is getting absurd. The use of the term "hero" for some poor bastard who got stuck in a bad situation and just did their job is another one that drives me up the wall--they do this to all public service types, firemen, policemen, etc. Everyone is a friken hero, everyone needs thanking.

When you sign up to fly a fighter aircraft, you know from the git-go that you won't be mixing drinks in the cockpit. Joining a fire department doesn't mean you are in charge of marshmallow toasting. You KNOW what the job entails. From a military standpoint, you just hope like hell that when you sign up with the Department of DEFENSE, that your job will entail the DEFENSE of your nation, and you won't be used as a political tool by a power-mad nutcase.

I swear, they encourage people to play the 'hero card' as a morale booster, but it is all bullshit. What might actually boost morale is the knowledge that you'll get medical care if you need it, a pay raise or two, and knowing that your family will be taken care of, REALLY. Anything else is just pap, mush, bullshit!

13. The lady that sings this is a pompous ass
and i doubt the event ever happened, or if she even penned the song herself...shes a self serving loathesome individual out to make a buck. She said in an interview that she sang this song for the troops and saw generals crying...i find that as well as her whole story hard to believe.

14. How disgusting in the extreme
As someone who has served and is a registered Democrat, I find these lyrics offensive, divisive, and un-American--a lot like the current administration, in fact.

The interesting subtext is that the asshole singing the song NEVER SERVED. (And as we know, gender is NO IMPEDIMENT, just have a look at the lists of the dead and wounded.) The singer has been here, there and everywhere, but clearly either "in spirit" or vicariously through family members....or maybe as a goddamn tourist.

Typical--the ones who can talk like crazy can't even crawl, never mind walk the damn walk.

I have never encountered anyone who has done any such thing to me, in or out of uniform, and I have spent plenty of time in 'blue' states, where the GOP conventional wisdom proclaims that I should be denigrated for my service.

I'd tell people to wipe their asses on these lyrics, but I would be afraid they might catch something fungal or uncurable if they do!!!

17. You are most welcome
I volunteered, I wasn't drafted, and for the bad times, there were good as well. I was delighted to do it, in fact. I really did want to DEFEND my country, but this crap of waging war for oil and politics is pretty damn disgraceful, and dishonorable, too.

If the BushCo crowd really want to take over all the oil, they should use mercenaries exclusively, and stop besmirching the reputations of the Services that were established to "provide for the national DEFENSE."

Course, we know the present administration doesn't understand the meaning of words too well! They probably think Defense and Offense are synonyms!!!!

23. I am not alone
There are plenty who feel like I do. The thing is, the good ones understand the chain of command, and they also understand the consequences (which can be severe) of speaking out. Those who have made it a career have a lot to lose -- pension, support for their family, housing...it means giving up EVERYTHING if they decide to kick you out on your ass. Plus, employers don't leap to hire anyone with an iffy discharge code on their 214. It affects you for the rest of your life. It is a horrible position to be in. It's why I can never denigrate anyone in uniform, who is stuck serving a maniac--their motives were pure, they just got trapped by a political idiot who wants to rule the world.

Alot of them pass things along, to reporters, to people like David Hackworth, to family members....I just wish the lamestream media would get off their asses and start covering the real stories. If we saw some of the crap that was going on over there on our TV, I doubt we'd have this "divided America" nonsense--everyone would say that we just need to get the fuck out of there.

Some have already started bitching--the Guard and Reserve, who are really the ones getting screwed, along with the USMC. They're looking at what they were told, and what the reality is, and saying to hell with it. If they ever start drafting, you'll hear that "Bullshit!" loud and clear.

15. I'll bet the disgruntled fan club member
who blew the whistle on the singer and her manager will be completely discredited in a public way in the next 24 hours. After all, we all know that Country Music is God's Music, right?

In the meantime, how comical. Chely what's-her-face better get a job. She won't be able to afford a SUV, let alone the gas to drive it around, as her career is now over.

Bwahahahaha! The song is saying it's a Christian who is giving them the middle finger.

Oh, that's rich. That's classic.
