I didn't know that anybody really used the term "the AIDS" unless they were trying to be funny or portraying an ignorant character. On NPR today, hardcore right-wing Rev. Lou Sheldon was debating gay rights issues with Jefferey Kors from EQCA. (I only heard a half hour of it). Sheldon told a story of how a gay teacher's life partner had "died of The AIDS". He used this story to make a point that gay people aren't monogamous. I can only imagine how gays and lesbians must feel about people like this. It's time to destroy the religious right once and for all.
I've used that term in making fun of ignorant right-wing bigots (as well as the even dumber "teh AIDS"), but the fact that people actually use that still... holy crap.
It's like we blinked back to the '80s overnight, except there are no John Hughes films or ice cream colored suits.
