Kyoto -----> Earthquakes

Planet warms... glaciers melt, possibly increasing increasing Chandler's wobble... good thing the brainiac didn't see the wisdom in signing off on the Kyoto thingy. I bet this won't even dawn on the repugs, this administration, shrub, vice-pResident, none of them.

These eight graphs directly correlate and demonstrate that most major tectonic activity, including earthquakes, volcanism, El Nino, and global warming phenomenon are caused by the changing location of the poles as the Earth wobbles back and forth slightly in what is called Chandler's Wobble. The name for these correlations is called vortex tectonics.

For example, earthquake action picked up in places where the ice masses retreated some 10,000 years ago, Dr. Sauber notes. Scandinavia had major quakes back then. Canada also had many moderate quakes as its glaciers melted.

Melting glaciers do not cause earthquakes: Quakes are created when forces within the crust build up strain in rock until something slips. Alaska is seismically active because a North Pacific crustal plate is ramming into southern Alaska, creating pressures that must be relieved at some point.

Global warming is responsible for many, many other problems, yes, but not this particular quake. Killer quakes and tidal waves have come from that area before. It's a very active region of the "ring of fire" around the Pacific Ocean, fueled ultimately by planetary plate tectonic forces.

I think one of the issues to come out of this tragedy is: why wasn't there an effective tsunami warning system in place, as it is in Hawaii and Japan? A system of sirens or bells or whatever, even blanket radio announcements, might have saved many lives. The arrival time of the killer waves can be predicted rather precisely, yet people were taken by surprise.

A lot can be blamed on the lack of a treaty...but not earthquakes.

...very precisely. There is no excuse for not warning the people in the danger zones as soon as the main quake set the waves in motion. There wouldn't have been much time, but there would have been enough for many -- by no means all -- of the people who were lost.
