Republicans on Air America Radio
Today I realized that Tom Coburn will be on Unfiltered. It is possible that this show is a rerun. However, I really do not believe shows on AAR should try to get republicans to come on their shows. I do not see any reason why they should have republicans on their shows. The republicans have their own shows that they can go on and talk about their issues. I think AAR should be a place for democrats to be able to respond to what the republicans say on other shows. What do other DUers think?

1. I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This station is an opposition station to the crap spewed forth by the right. Giving them yet another voice, albeit, I guess in non partisan shake of the hand to moderation, is not needed.

11. I've always wondered
where those ratings come from. For instance, how do the stations know for sure how many people are tuned in?

19. Not really sure, but I know they can tell how many are listening
to live streaming on the internet(s)

As for the rest...there must be some way of knowing (just like on other radio stations) who is listening. Not sure how that works though.

14. Oh, sword! Do you really think that vast numbers of repubes listen to AAR?
That would be like assuming that disaster relief is only the UN's job!

Oops! You posted that sentiment, didn't you?

15. Your opinion isn't reflected in the actual ratings.
You might want to actually look at the numbers before you spout off.

3. I think that's extreme. It is called Air America, not Air Democrat.
That's rather our point, isn't it? That Democrats are different from Repugs? I like that AAR's approach differs from the conservative fanatics in hate radio. That they do try to engage in discourse. I assume they do, anyway. I don't listen on a regular basis.

4. I disagree
I think that many moderate repubs are decent people who have been blackmailed by the radical right, and need to find avenues to present their views. They are closer in spirit to moderates of all stripes, and are probably scared shitless by the far right contingent of their own party. The mainstream media won't listen to them or put them on, so it shows that AAR is an open and democratic system where you do not so much as condemn anyone with an opposing view, but offer them some legitimacy for their point of view. I know many, many repubs who hate the regime, but have no way of having their voices heard.

7. Are you thinking Tom Coburn is a moderate Repub?
If so, I would suggest you research some of the good Dr. Coburn's utterances.

8. Yeah, but...
Tom Coburn is hardly moderate. He's somewhere to the right of Atilla The Hun. He's the guy who steralized young women by pressuring them into consent or without their consent.

A real humanitarian, that Tom.

9. If moderates were that frightened by the right
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 08:56 AM by Feeney2
why the hell do they stay in the Party of Hate. I think most those mods have more in common with the hard right then they let on about.

17. Coburn "Moderate"?????
LOL

Coburn is crazy

He suggested that a high percentage of girls in high school in Southeastern Oklahoma were "practicing Lesbianism", and that the schools couldn't allow girls to go to the bathrooms together anymore.

Absolutely false, and crazy.

He sterilized a young woman without her permission (written) and so he claims she did give him permission (verbal) but she says she didn't.

He wanted Schindler's list banned from network broadcast because of the "nudity"

He is wayyyyy out to the right. His father is too. His father doesn't believe in taxes at all, and is into that right wing nonsense.

Tom is a chip off the old block from what I can tell.

10. I don't have a problem.
It will probably be the only "real" interview and grilling that a repub gets. Maybe they will expose the repubs for what they are.

If they flog him, I have no problems.

13. "If they flog him, I have no problems."
I agree. Verbal debate on policy and issues by gifted Air America hosts should cream the righties while educating and persuading the gullible right wing listeners. If it is handled well I don't mind, but if the repug guest is allowed to score points on OUR air waves I would not like it.

rachel maddow is intelligent to smash holes in their ideas. now, some shows i would keep them off of, like al franken. good show but not of the same caliber as the other.
