How they can leave out the half a million plus that came together in peace to protest. NYT is disgusting.

1. Did they have good shots of our convention?
What else did they have?

3. None. Had plenty of sad Iraqi shots, some abused prisoner shots, some
of soldiers crying or on missions or relaxing. Some sad tragedy shots from around the world -- the Beslan Middle School/Haiti. They had Reagan's funeral., Florida hurricaine, some Kerry shots, Some Bush shots that were pretty good. And the rest were just ubeat NYers relaxing shots.

CORRECTION -- THERE IS ONE RNC PROTEST SHOT - not a good one.

I WILL LOOK FOR LINK AND POST.

2. It's scary how quickly massive protests disappear down the memory
hole. The inaugural protest. All those protests leading up to the war. The massive protests after the war. The pro-choice march. The anti-RNC demonstration. Can they really all have amounted to nothing?

9. May I share the words of Vaclav Havel...

"Even a purely moral act that has no hope of any immediate and visible political effect can gradually and indirectly, over time, gain in political significance."

6. Were there any shots from the March for Women's Lives? Over 1 mill.
Largest march of any kind ever...

Bet that one didn't make it in. It barely made US headlines when it happened 7 or so months ago. (media's lax coverage is reviewed on F.A.I.R. (website, fair.com I think. Maybe .org )

8. Thanks for posting the link.
I wouldn't have seen this otherwise. I just fired off a "Feedback" e-mail to the NY Times:

2004: The Year in Pictures

Half a Million people from all over the country come together to protest in midtown Manhattan, and the best image you can post is pig-snout wearing people wallowing in money?

Please. How about the 'mock coffins' being carried through the streets of NYC? Why not show an aerial view of the flood of people taking to the streets in protest? There were at least a dozen more telling images that wouldn't marginalize the protest story and wouldn't make it seem like 'just a bunch of kooks'.

A sorry choice, in my opinion, as the sole image depicting the RNC protests in "2004: The Year in Pictures."

11. My sentiments exactly. I once wrote to the NYT about a headline
which read: ADORING SUPPORTERS GREET BUSH ON CAMPAIGN TRAIL. The content of the article was really about how his crows are handpicked but this fact was buried in the second paragraph.

Subject:the Year In Pictures, 2004--March For Women's Lives

So disappointed you chose to leave out the largest march ever in history, in Washington, DC. Over one million people at the March For Women's Lives was not deemed important enough to include in your year end recap. Funny, our Government thinks reproduction is important enough to use as a key campaign issue.

Women's right to control their bodies, and to safe and legal medical help are under seige by an alliance between Government and religious zealots, and you don't think the reaction of over one million people against this threat is worth remembering at the end of the year?

I question your priorities.

(Signed, me)
