I thought Bremer changed the Iraq flag last year? What happened?
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/flags/iz-flag.html

Flag Description:
three equal horizontal bands of red (top), white, and black with three green five-pointed stars in a horizontal line centered in the white band; the phrase ALLAHU AKBAR (God is Great) in green Arabic script - Allahu to the right of the middle star and Akbar to the left of the middle star - was added in January 1991 during the Persian Gulf crisis; similar to the flag of Syria, which has two stars but no script, Yemen, which has a plain white band, and that of Egypt which has a gold Eagle of Saladin centered in the white band; design is based upon the Arab Liberation colors

And someone told the American that while many Moslems in the rest of the world like the Cresent Moon, In Arab lands themselves their are ambiguous about it. The Cresent Moon was first used by the TURKS as a flag, and as such while the Turks called the Cresent Moon a Flag of the Caliph, many Arabs would object to the Cresent Moon do to its Turkish backgorund. Moslems in other parts of the World have a better view of the Cresent Moon than the Arabs (do to various assistence provided them by the Turks from 1500-1800).

Now Givne the past assistnace to Moslems non-Arabs by the Turks the Cresent is acceptable as a sysmbol of international aid even in Arab Lands (This the Red Cresent in place of the Red Cross) BUT not on a National Flag of a Country that had lived under Turkish rule.

Whoever did this flag had no concept of Arab/Moslem background but was told he had to use something different colors than the old flag (whose Colors were pciked do to the COlors being tradional ARAB colors). Thus the Blue of the Flag. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

Thus it was quietly killed.

2. I heard talk after the flag was changed
that the Iraqis were very upset with the new flag proposed by the Governing Counsel below.
I never followed up with what happened though.

4. It didn't take
Like a lot of Stupidhead's half-assed initiatives. Do you remember that Condi the Incompetent was supposed to take over the management of the task force in charge of transforming Iraq? Good, you're not supposed to!
