What do you expect to hear(or not hear) from *'s speech today?
He's expected to make a statement about the Tsunami today and I'm wondering if he will take a step too far and saying something he should not.

I wouldn't be surprise if he says something like We help those countries who helped us but we cannot be responsible for all countries. This is a democracy and if you don't scratch our back we won't scratch your back. You-you can't expect to be fed by the hand you just bite.

OH am I being too cruel?

2. It'll be the standard
we PLEDGE x$ to help. And then make sure it'll never get to the people who need it.

Look at the track record for everything other than war that he's said he would fund. Come to think about it, he hasn't been so good at funding the actual people who are fighting the war, either.

6. Certainly I DO NOT expect anything intelligent to come from this bone head
I DO expect meaningless promises that won't be honored, yet will be sited endlessly by wingnuts as to proof of America's greatness and commitment to humanitarianism.

Among the world's two dozen wealthiest countries, the United States often is among the lowest in donors per capita for official development assistance worldwide, even though the totals are larger. According to the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of 30 wealthy nations, the United States gives the least -- at 0.14 percent of its gross national product, compared with Norway, which gives the most at 0.92 percent.

Staff writer Jim VandeHei in Crawford, Tex., and political researcher Brian Faler in Washington contributed to this report.

8. Listen: I know it's HARD WORK to clean up after nature.
See, I've been clearing brush here at the pig farm, and it's HARD WORK. The US is generously pledging $35 million to the relief effort for food and medications. There should be enough people left to do the HARD WORK of cleaning up nature without any financial assistance from the compassionate conservatives here in the US. I know it's HARD WORK, but if I can do it, so can they.

9. Add the words "Five days too late" after each sentence.
And a disclaimer: If you believe we're really going to send money to these victims, just remember that we pledged $15 million in AIDS money to Africa, which is still subject to our assessment of the situation.

I'll bet that "we" will count the Red Cross/NGO money, the value of the 3 planes carrying blankets and water, and anything else "we" can get away with, considering that "we" have no free press to speak truth to power.

It is hard work helping brown people suffering from faith based floods
since some people claim that brown people can't swim and don't need tax cuts. But Bernie Kerik is "supremely qualified" for my man date. So I have directed my government to do something.

"a leader leads", or "thirty-five millions will make lots of rice and curry and when you have lots of rice and curry to give out to people so people can eat, people won't go hungry because they will be full and their stomachs won't be empty" and then he will smirk!

From a zero-thread:

Connecting the spin on Shrub's "compassion":
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2876811

What do we know about Shrub's "compassion"? Some have noticed that he is biking and chilling at the pig farm while alertly "monitoring" the tsunami fallout. But soon the wingnuts will be spewing talking points about how this does NOT reflect on his "compassion". For example,

* He doesn't go to soldiers' funerals because he doesn't want to intrude on the private grief of families.

* According to Fauxer Tony SNOWjob, Shrub shows "thoughtfulness" and "consideration" by using his helicopter instead of tying up traffic with security convoys through town.

* He doesn't go to church because he doesn't want to disrupt the services with his security entourage.

* He doesn't meet with the NAACP because he doesn't want the Office of the Presidency (not HIM) dissed.

* He doesn't see his kids much because they want normal lives.

Anyway, there was a link already putting the current event in (Shrub) perspective, to wit:

Worst Natural Disasters In History

POSTED: 4:55 pm EST December 28, 2004
UPDATED: 5:00 pm EST December 28, 2004

Here is a list of the worst natural disasters in recorded history.

Currently, the 2004 South Asia tsunamis would have the highest fatality count for a tsunami event, surpassing a tsunami in 1896 that killed out 27,000 people in Japan.

2004 - South Asia

An earthquake causes tsunamis that hit Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Thailand and other South Asian nations. The current death toll is 44,000.

2003 - Iran

A 6.3 quake devastated the Iranian city of Bam, killing more than 50,000 people.

1999 - Venezuela

The death toll is still unclear from the rain-caused landslides that hit Venezuela in mid-December 1999; official estimates are as high as 30,000 deaths.

1998 - Central America

Hurricane Mitch devastates much of Honduras and Nicaragua in Central America. More than 10,000 people were killed and some 2 million left homeless as mudslides swept away whole villages.

1991 - Bangladesh

Bangladesh lost more than 130,000 people in April 1991 from cyclone-induced flooding. ....
