1. The USA's original donation was $15 million--$20 million was hastily added
in the last day or so when they realized the "cheapskates" label would stick.

If anyone doubts whether this country is now morally bankrupt, look no further.

3. And the extra $20 million is a "line of credit", not a "pledge"
Asshole President.

I'm glad to see we're actually near the top of some world participation list, for a change. Hey, by the way, do you have a link for this?

9. Generous Spaniards
The Spanish are quite generous compared to everyone especially since they have a much smaller population and GDP then most of the others on the list. God Bless Them.

10. Wow....good job Spain
Strange how a country twice as small as the US is giving twice as much money. Another thumbs up for PM Zapatero....

I noticed Iran was on there, as well. Hmmmmm. Do they still belong on the "axis of evil?"

11. New Zealand increases its pledge
Meanwhile, the New Zealand government has upped its commitment from a vaguely formed pledge early on of several hundred thousand dollars to a $5 million relief package, $2 million of which will be allocated on a dollar-for-dollar matching funds programme involving a large number of private charities and non governmental aid organisations.

13. Gee, Luxembourg, can you spare it?
Aren't they the richest country in the world according to per capita GDP, whatever that means, :silly: ?

Most of the money we're giving is play money...excuse me, "credit".

How much are we spending to destroy Iraq and rebuild it again, FOR NO REASON??

How disgusting.

16. Only works if we know how much of the others' contributions are
"promises" of "loans"...

Take out the $20M of "future loans", and we are at the bottom of the list by "stature of contributor"..

18. That's why it's MASSIVELY STUPID to even CALL it a "line of credit"
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 05:16 PM by SoCalDem
By calling it a line of credit, he TOLD the world we are NOT giving money magnanimously, but are "hoping" for a repayment.. If it never happens (and it won't) why not just GIVE THE DAMNED MONEY and not even bother with the "loan" aspect of it:grr:

It's like when you loan your kids money.. you "know" you'll never see it again, but secretly you have the satisfaction of "reminding them" at key times, about the money they "owe" you :)

19. Related to GNP, U.S. aid is something like 18th out of 20 richest
countries. I heard this today. Each American gives the equivalent of only thirteen cents for International Aid each day.

Looking at this list, all I can say is, "Good for Spain!"

22. Good so far
Total 359 million when additional info from Canada and NZ added and plus 40 million from EU and 8 million from Norway that were not mentioned.

EU and members counting for 210 million.

Good, but not enough. Billions will be needed for the reconstruction.
