Non-Monetary Aid Donations?
How does one donate non-monetary aid and be reasonably certain it will reach it's intended recipients? I don't have much money right now but I have lots of stuff.

1. They don't want it right now.
They keep saying storing and transporting goods would be too much trouble for the relief agencies. They just need money.

People giving money to the disaster means less will be going to the needy here so donate your stuff to your local charities.

2. That's What I Usually Do...
but I just can't stomach doing nothing for these victims. I will hold on to it until they do need these things. Thanks for the reply.

6. Have a garage sale and send them the money from it
Sell the stuff and send the cash. They need cash. Then need clean water and food and shelter.

3. By all means, if you think your non-monetary donations will help, then
please donate them. It will probably take a bit longer for these things to get there than money. Where are you at?

7. Check your local churches
I would imagine that as time passes a bit and the immediate food water and medicine needs are being met by cash, they will need those clothes too. I suspect that many local churches will coordinate with their worldwide denominations on things like clothing drives on the local level, with the denomination handling logistics. Both the Catholics and the Episcopalians have world wide relief agencies, if you don't mind working with a religious agency.

Just a thought.

8. Thanks For Pointing Out ...
the obvious. Being a person of non-faith that, unfortunately, would have been the last place I thought of. I will do it tomorrow(I have the day off). I don't mind working with religious agencies at all if the proselytizing is kept to a minimum.

9. You're welcome!
I know that the Episcopalians do not proselytize, and I would bet the same of the Unitarians. Can't speak to any of the others--I think the Lutherans and the Presyterians would probably be a good bet, too. Good luck!
