What is this new Fundie symbol I see?
I saw a car with a palm tree and a crecent moon. They were coloured with red white and blue stripes.

I've also seen them in plain white and I think orange.

What is this new Fundie symbol?

2. I believe...
you are refering to the state flag of South Carolina...I only know that because I've seen many of them the past week because I'm down at my mother's house in Myrtle Beach.
I have no clue why they come in so many colors

3. I think the palm tree and crescent moon
stand for something Arabic or Islamic. Combined w/r/wh/blue, possibly it means patriotic American of Arabic descent?

33. The crescent moon is evil, EVIL. Proctor & Gamble have the
moon and stars symbol, and they drink babies blood and chant to the devil, remember?

Seriously, my fundie mother (progressively more and more shrill in her piety, she is fundioactive) recently declared she will not allow these symbols in her house under any circumstances.

Trust me, you will never see an aspect of nature such as a planetary satellite or tree on anything christian. Nature is evil, of the devil, and unclean.

South Carolina is separatists' promised land

By Paul Wachter and Christina Lee Knauss

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A Texas group wants conservative Christians to move to South Carolina - 12,000 at a time - to form a biblically inspired government and secede from the United States.

Decrying a national tolerance of abortion and gay marriage as well as the teaching of evolution, ChristianExodus.org hopes to achieve a majority of like-minded Christians in the state by 2016, the planned year of secession

"redneck, slurred speakin, unedumacated, sweaty, tobacco chewin, fingerlickin' soppin-up gravy backwards-ass hicks"

* I grew up in the country
* I make my 's' sounds weird (not quite a lisp, but enough to torture my childhood :) )
* I work hard when I work, so yeah, I sweat
* I always lick my fingers clean after baby back ribs
* Bread sops up gravy real well, try it, it's yummy
* I wear my hat backwards
* I live eight feet from a state game preserve

So THERE. Nyah. ;)

5. It's South Carolina's Confederate Flag
The Original Secession Flag

by Mario Fabretto, 24 February 1998

Though the South Carolina state flag harkens back to the crescent worn by her troops in the American Revolution, and the palmetto tree is a reminder of the palmetto logs that stopped British cannon balls in the bombardment of Ft. Moultrie during the same war, it is still very much a Confederate flag for its current incarnation.

While the flag in some variation was adopted under the South Carolina Militia Act of 1838, the flag as shown today was not officially adopted as the state flag until January, 1861. Then it was the flag of the seceded Republic of South Carolina - the first of the states to leave the Union.

As such, it is indeed every bit as much a Confederate flag as any other pattern of Confederate flag (and there were many). In fact, the palmetto flag, as it became called at the time, was far more the symbol of secession for the South than the more famous Bonnie Blue flag - that gets far more publicity than it deserves based on an examination of the newspapers of the time (but it did have the song). I have found FAR more mentions of palmetto flags being hoisted all over the South (as well as out West and in the North) as symbols of secession than the lone star/Bonnie Blue flags.

South Carolina troops also fought under their state flag -the state providing flags to the first ten regiments raised for its defense. Other palmetto flags were issued to local military companies as well which saw early combat use.

The palmetto flag of South Carolina is, therefore, a Confederate battle flag, just like those that were created to be as such during the war by the various CSA commanders.

25. Interesting.
I lived in SC for eight years and never knew that. I'm as liberal as they come and pretty much hated the politics of the entire state. It is truly run by a good ol' boy network of corporatists who will put a (D) next to their name if it will help them get elected.

I still love Charleston and its rows of palmetto trees. I don't think the trees themselves are a sign of the Confederacy.

Unfortunately, I now live in a state that wishes it could've seceeded. Stupid crackers (in the Garofalo sense of the word)!

I actually think it is a memo to the SC deliverance types that at this time of day you sneak out to the barn and rape the sheep.

Just so they don't get confused.

8. New symbol of Southern Pride
Hi xultar,

The symbol is the state flag of South Carolina - the first state to secede from the Union to form the Confederacy. The article from the Freepers explains it all:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1173605/posts

The symbol is subtle display of Southern pride, rather than the Confederate flag.

Rick

15. That really is infuriating!
because I just commented to my mom yesterday that I was surprised that I didn't see as many confederate flags on cars as usual. But I've seen a ton of these with the obligatory Bush/Cheney bumper stickers. They are getting crafty with their racist symbols. I'm a northerner, so I had no idea about the story behind that flag. Ewwww thats awful! :puke:

35. you know what, the confederate flag debate was agony for the
Black Folks in SC.

And it ended with a slap in the face, taking the confederate flag down from the top of the statehouse and putting in right smack in front on the statehouse grounds.

When I look at this flag I see a moon and a tree.

I don't care what the freaks think it used to stand for.

It was a moon and a tree before they slobbered on it, and it'll be a moon and a tree long after their stinking corpses have rotted into the earth.

Dragging SC through another flash war like the one in the late 1990's would be just cruel and unusual punishment.

18. The Red and White colors or Red/Black denote a USC
(University of South Carolina Gamecock) fan. The Orange versions are Clemson fans. I have one on my car (it's blue--like our State flag) and I'm sure as hell not a RW or a * lover--I just love my state, even if they are a bunch of stupid, right-wing fuckers. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I love my state but hate 99.9% of the people who live here! (Okay make that anyone who voted for *!)

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I love my state but hate 99.9% of the people who live here!

I lived most of my life in SC (born there), but after I lived in Seattle and now LA, I love the *place* when I go back, just can't deal with the backward people (yes, I do recognize that there are always exceptions, but...). I pity the poor exploited fools, but that doesn't help much.

The poor decent people of SC! They're welcome to move out to CA. We'll take them so we can ship our trash out there. Freeperville in Fresno, CA would be the first city I'd like to swap out.

Tell them the crescent moon is a Satanic symbol. I kid you not. Remember when Proctor and Gamble had to scrap their crescent moon logo? It was because one of the TV minister assholes like Oral Roberts or Pat Robertson claimed it was Satanic and a symbol of black magic. This may be one of the problems they have with Islam too.
