The neocons believe in the Straussian (as in Leo Strauss) theory that they can create a world of moral certainties that will give meaning and purpose to our lives. So they work to create a world view that we are engaged in a battle between good & evil.

They have invented a mythology to make people believe that any force that obstructs the US is a force of evil and that the forces of evil are determined to destroy our society. And that we must concor this evil to survive.

Their entire purpose is to rescue the country from moral decay.
