They are saying the Earth shifted on its axis due to the 9.2 earthquake .
in Asia.

(snip) made the earth wobble on its axis and permanently changed the geology of the surrounding area, scientists claim (snip)

(snip) a shock powerful enough to make the earth wobble on its
axis (snip)

If it shifted, wouldn't the whole world have felt a little wobbly (no joke or pun intended here, just doesn't make sense to me???). Also, wouldn't more ecosystems be involved?

Any scientists out there?

1. No
The earth rotates about once every 86,000 seconds, and this change was something like .0001 seconds. That's like 0.0000001% -- nothing anyone could feel.

(I didn't reread the article -- this is from memory)

3. Thanks. I reread the article and they spoke somewhat of what
you both have said. I just find it amazing and am in awe of it all. Makes one realize just how much more miniscule they really are.

Thanks for taking the time to explain to a blonde.

2. Almost background noise.
There are lots of things that modify the earth's rotational velocity on the order of a couple of microseconds, including the weather. No cause for alarm.
