5. Krugman just eviscerated the Bush tax cut policies
and Timmy looked none to pleased about it. He looked genuinely pained to have to plug Krugman's book just before the break. LOL!

9. Ooo. Ouch. "This is not your father's recession. ...
This is your grandfather's recession."

OUCH!! Go get 'em, Paul.

He was talking earlier about things being "frightening," said quite soberly. Now ThAT's frightening!

33. I'm sorry, but I can't let this pass without comment
If you've been reading DU the last few days and have paid attention to the threads about Dean's tax policy (he's into 'reform' and simplification, but won't say he's going to make the tax code progressive, which often requires credits and deductions, and he'd rather reduce the defecit that keep the middle class tax cuts) you might have seen the thread in which the krugman interview at Liberaloasis.com is cited.

A reading of Krugman's interview there suggest that he doesn't agree with Dean's position on keeping the middle class tax cuts, even though the interviewer tried to press him to support what has become Dean's position.

So, I'm inclined to say, if you agree with Krugman (who says that giving back the middle class tax cut isn't going to make a dent in the defecit and the next president is going to have to find ways to make the economy grow), you'd have to think that maybe Dean doesn't get it.

Paul says this is how to fix things.

He gives Clinton high marks for his leadership on the economy.

21. Krugman
I've read most of Krugman's books. They're very good, and written for the layman...some of them like "Peddling Prosperity" are dense at parts, even for an economics junkie like myself...but it was definitely rewarding as it explained the past few decades of economics history very well. There's a lot to learn in economics and some of the work is pretty dense, hopefully I'll have a better grasp of it all eventually...Krugman makes it easier. He is not just a talking head expounding on the economy, he is a respected economist.

23. "a fiscal crisis BY DESIGN".......
yup, a repeat of the Reagan years when David Stockman "went to the woodshed" for exposing the exact same plan of cutting taxes, so that going back to the level needed to fund programs could be labeled "raising taxes."

Part of the plan, says Krugman....and they are 'dishonest' in how they use the numbers....

sorry :(

But, this is an excellent interview.

"If you look at the legislations that the house republican leadership in the house tried to push through in the immediate aftermath of sept. 11, it was outrageous. I was spectacular p olitical exploitation of the event.'

Will all this be in his book???

Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 09:58 PM by Cush
All throughout the 2000 Campaign they allowed Bush to get away with everything. If they just took 1 minute, they would've see the lies. His own numbers didn't add up. And they still aren't doing their jobs

29. I normally don't like Russert
but I thought he did a good job tonight, especially since Krugman slammed him for using Bush numbers to confront Dean.

He gave Krugman plenty of time to speak and tell the truth. Paul was awesome!!!

30. Except for the trap right at the end.
In the last few seconds (timed perfectly) he quoted Paul regarding how the press always presents two sides to every question. Paul agreed and then Tim said something like "but you pick one view and stick right with it" and got Paul to agree.

It was a setup to make Krugman look biased and there was no time for him to explain or retort.

Tim Russert has sold his sold to the devil.

31. What Paul actually said was
that the "mainstream" media always tries to show both sides, whereas the hardcore "right wing" media shows only one side.

32. A typical trick - the 'you are liberal so what you say doesnt matter'
Next time I hope Paul will say,

The side I am on is the truth. If the truth is now defined as liberal then hey, so be it!
