3. I'm in some of the groups and I don't think
their presence siphons off people from the more established DU boards. They obviously have had little effect on the beloved Lounge (which is my DU home)

9. Those groups are very specialized and do not interfere with
other Forums. In fact they allow people with EXTREME views to be with each other and post their frustrations there...since the Democratic party is the big tent...I think there needs to be a place for people to vent their OWN feelings and not be debated with and argued into the ground and it has probably saved many a DU'er from being banned! JMHO :hi:...try out a group...you might like it?

17. Yeah, boy, you should see the extremists in the
Gardening Group. Not to mention Cooking and Baking. And you better keep an eye on that Home Improvement and Crafts group too. Wheweeeeee. Visit those three groups at your own damn risk, I tell you.

Patdem, no offense, but :wtf:

and are NOT cross pollinating. That is too funny! :D

23. We're just CRAZY in the "musicians group"
OMG, the other day we were talking about which amps sound the best, and what our favorite guitars are!!! It's radicals like us that will fragment DU and let the Repigs steal another election! :eyes:

24. not so fast ...

didn't i see some stuff in the gardening group about "going green" and "weeding out" certain undesirable elements ...

this kind of divisiveness cannot continue ...

actually, i have wondered whether over time, having these "fun groups" will make DU a less political place ... is it possible we will eventually attract people who are less interested in politics than in some of the sub-forums? and when they do participate in political discussions, are they likely to be "progressives" if they did not specifically come to DU to discuss politics?

i don't know the answers to these questions but i think the impact these groups will have on future members DU attracts is still unknown ... in the meantime, i enjoy many of the new groups ...

15. I visit both the main boards and the groups.
Just a way for those of us with common interests to talk without being swept away by the whirlwind that is the Lounge or GD.

25. Yeah, you had better watch out for the 'Classic Film Group.'
We're really weird. We watch old black and white films.

On Sunday nights we REALLY go crazy. We watch silent movies.
Shhhhhh. Don't tell anyone. ;)

7. The only thing missing is a Freeper Lurker Rehab Support Group -lol
I'll be spending a lot of time on the computer group. Lately I've had a lot of, say, "issues" with my computer.

22. Tell me about it.
"Conspiracies? What conspiracies?"

"The first business of anyone who practices philosophy is to get rid of self-conceit.

-- Epictetus (1st century C.E. Greek philosopher)

I'd bring up Atlas Shrugged, but I can't stand to quote Ayn Rand.

21. Groups are good because if you are following a particular
thread, it will stay up a great deal longer in the Group than it will on the Lounge page or the GD page.

Fiction group is starting a book club, beginning with
The Plot Against America for January.

non fiction group is reading "Don't Think of an Elephant"

and if I want to rag on about my compost and mulch, I can do it in the garden section and not bore the Lounge with it.

Of course cats are the exception, even though there is a pets group, cat photos must go in the lounge!!
