Iraqi Website: US Forces Have Captured al-Zarqawi
I did not post this in LBN because of it being from an Iraqi website. This link was posted on Commondreams

STOP PRESS: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi captured by US forces in Iraq
3.1.05

12.00 GMT. IDAO exclusive. According to IDAO's own sources in Baghdad and Sulaimanya, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been arrested in Bagouba by US forces.

The US occupation forces will cite this arrest as a victory for their war on terrorism. The people of Falluja in their demonstrations demanding US withdrawal of the last few days, which has topped 30,000 people according to news agency reports, have raised slogans distancing themselves from the Zarqwai group. The people of Falluja have repeatedly accused US forces of using Zarqawi as a pretext to demolish a city of 300,000 in an attempt to quell its resistance to the occupation. Many in the Iraqi resistance have expressed opposition to Zarqwi's methods in the past, who is regarded as a small force in the anti-occupation movement.

12. Yeah, the source seems odd--- if the US military had...
Zarqawi, you'd think that they would want to sit on that fact until they could exploit any potential intelligence value from him.

7. optimistically speaking....

I know this might be wishful thinking, but if the majority of Iraqis suddenly decide the occupation and violence will stop if they turn over the resisters, then maybe we can get out of there.

I have relatives there. I'd sure like this tour to be their last...

8. How many legs does this one have?
This has to be at least the fourth time they've 'caught' him since they killed him in 2003. Tough break for a guy who already got his leg amputated and had it grow back!

14. Zarqawi was formerly reported to have lost a leg
in a US missile strike, although the U.S. military now believes Zarqawi still has both legs. The nature of this report has changed a great deal over time. Early in 2002, there were unverified reports from Northern Alliance members that Zarqawi had been killed by a missile attack in Afghanistan. Many news sources repeated the claim.

Later, Kurdish groups claimed that Zarqawi had not died in the missile strike, but had been severely injured, and went to Baghdad in 2002 to have his leg amputated. On October 7, 2002, the day before Congress voted to give the President permission to go to war against Iraq, President Bush gave a speech in Cincinnati, Ohio that repeated this claim as fact. This was Bush's primary example of ways Saddam Hussein had purportedly aided al-Qaida. Powell repeated this claim in his famous speech to the UN, urging a resolution for war, and it soon became "common knowledge" that Zarqawi had a prosthetic leg.

When the video of the beheading of Nick Berg was released, credence was given to the claim that Zarqawi was alive and active. The man identified as Zarqawi in the video did not appear to have a prosthetic leg. The U.S. military has since admitted that claims of Zarqawi's missing leg were part of a disinformation campaign.

In March 2004, an insurgent group in Iraq issued a statement that said Zarqawi had been killed in 2002. The statement said that he was unable to escape the missile attack because of his prosthetic leg. No evidence was provided

11. I Hope It's True: A Bad Hat Taken Out of Circulation
I hope that this report proves true. While I still believe that the Boosh regime invaded Iraq based on false claims and false expectations (And His Nibs and his Vizier should have been impeached and convicted for it), I hope that Al Zarqawi has indeed been captured. Al Zarqawi is a bad hat who would threaten anybody's efforts to bring back a measure of order and more hopefully a sovereign, self-determining state to the suffering Iraqis.

The capture of this villain--if true--in no way justifies the initial invasion. Nor does it constitute a great strategic victory for US interests. Even if they can elect a truly representative government, I believe that the majority of Iraqis would understandably and quite rightly want the US occupation of their country to end ASAP, and that furthermore, the majority of Iraqis are in no way inclined to act as PNAC puppets.

Ever seen a picture of this "villain?"

And if you think for a MOMENT that the U.S. is engaged in "efforts to bring back a measure of order and more hopefully a sovereign, self-determining state to the suffering Iraqis," I got a bridge between Sumatra and Aech to sell ya.

21. Zarqawi In Or Out Of Play....
I think you missed the point. Whether Zarqawi is behind bars or still at large, the Iraq situation is STILL going to blow back in the Boosh regime's faces. An orderly, more stable Iraq is not going to stand for foreign domination.

I think that Zarqawi is real, that he's a bloodthirsty thug, and that it would be better for Iraq and other places in the Arab world if he were dead and/or out of circulation. FYI, Zarqawi is not only targeting US occupation forces (As an American, reason enough for me to oppose him) but also Shi'ite mosques, holy sites, and Shi'a leaders. Hardly the sort of "freedom fighting" stuff of which a Sandino or a Osceola is made.

30. Dude! Zarqawi is a myth!
Bushistas believe as long as the enemy has a face, they can continue to have an excuse for their fairy tale "war on terror". Didn't you ever wonder why they released that fake Bin Laden tape where he supposedly admits to the world trade center?
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osamatape.html
They did that to quiet all the talk of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistans involvement in 9-11. They're just raiding the piggy bank while they scare you and tell you they're protecting the US.

31. It's amazing that people believe it, isnt it?
No wonder they continue to tell ridiculous lies. All you have to do is find the old interviews with Bin Laden in 96 and 98 and compare them to all these counterfeits that have come out in the past two years. The 1st video after 9-11 that came out Dec. 14th was the all time funniest. A short, pudgy, right-handed Bin Laden. They still have it posted on NPR! http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/war/bin_laden_vid.ram
