Enrollment of gay couple's children in Catholic school causes uproar
By The Associated Press

A group of parents and parishioners has accused the Orange County diocese of violating church doctrine by allowing a gay couple to enroll their children in a Catholic school.

The group demanded last month that St. John the Baptist School in Costa Mesa accept only families that pledge to abide by Catholic teachings.

(snip)

School officials, however, rejected demands for a parental covenant last week and issued a new policy stating that a family's background "does not constitute an absolute obstacle to enrollment in the school." ..Rev. Gerald M. Horan, superintendent of schools operated by the diocese, suggested that hewing too closely to Catholic beliefs would mean banning children whose parents divorced, used birth control or married outside the church.

(snip)

The decision outraged some parents, with several promising to ask the Vatican to intervene and threatening to switch schools.

2. "threatening to ask the Vatican to intervene" - My my, that's the true
christian spirit!

At least the school officials rejected this. Jesus was even nice to whores and convicted criminals if I remember correctly. Oij, I thought only the rebourn "christians" behave insanely but evidently the epidemic is spreading.... taking hatred and bigotry out on children, how despicable.

3. I wonder if both men are the legal fathers of both boys.
Can two same-sex people be the legal parents of an adopted child? Or can only one of them be the "legal" parent? Not sure if this would even matter, but I wonder if there is any distinction to be made.

BTW - both of my kids attend(ed) Catholic grade school. I'm divorced, was not married to the fathers of either of my kids, AND I stopped attending church many many years ago. The kids were welcomed with open arms, in fact no one has EVER questioned me as to their parentage, my marital status, my church attendance, etc.!

4. Good point.
So this school will be expelling all children of divorced parents, parents who have non-reproductive sex, those who use birth control, those who choose not to tithe 10% of their income.

IMO, fuck this school. Let them expose themselves for the bigots and heretics that they are.

Shut them down.

5. Fortunately, in this case, the school did the right thing. The kids stay.

Did you see the parents who are instigating this whole thing? I saw them interviewed on one of the news shows yesterday -- disgusting, ugly freaks.

But I say go for it. Let the extemists be absolutely loud and out in public with their lunacy. Every time they show their true selves, a few more decent, thinking people wake up to what's happening in our country today.

6. It was the parents, not the admin
I read a different article where a school official said the parents were on a slippery slope, as banning kids with gay parents could make them ban kids with parents who are adulterers, divorced, etc (the same point you said), and the school would cease to exist.
