Rossi given fresh hope as 'mystery voters' grow
GOP calls on counties to explain a discrepancy of nearly 8,500

By CHRIS McGANN
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER CAPITOL CORRESPONDENT

Thousands of "mystery voters" in the counties of King, Pierce, Snohomish, Clark and Kitsap appear to be Republican Dino Rossi's best prospect for challenging the legitimacy of the closest and most contentious gubernatorial election in the state's history.

The state Republican Party yesterday called on county election officials to explain what the GOP says is a nearly 8,500-vote discrepancy between county vote tallies and the number of people credited with actually voting in the election.

"People ask me what would fraud look like? It would look like this," said state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance.

~~~Hmmm! I wonder if the 2004 vote in Ohio, which, as mnost know, has more votes than those registered also, would come into question here!
~~~

"You simply can't have more votes counted than you have voters," Vance said. "The counties have to come up with a plausible explanation for this and if they don't this election is invalid on its face."

And Secretary of State Sam Reed again said that this issue could be used to contest the election.

Rossi backers push for revote
By David Postman

Seattle Times chief political reporter
A group of Dino Rossi supporters has started a campaign to press for a new governor's election between Republican Rossi and Christine Gregoire, the Democrat who is set to be sworn in Jan. 12.

ReVote Washington is trying to raise money for an advertising campaign, and in four days got 10,000 people to sign an Internet petition calling on the Legislature to hold a runoff election, said Sharon Gilpin, a Seattle public-relations executive who started the effort.

<snip>
Rossi and the Republican Party are compiling information about possible voting irregularities. His spokeswoman, Mary Lane, said that effort is moving as quickly as possible.

If King County and at least four other counties can't adequately explain their inability to say who cast ballots, it could be a basis for contesting the election, state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance said yesterday.

"We simply can't have more votes than there are voters," Vance said. "It's common sense. It's the fundamental thing that you do to prevent people from stuffing the ballot box."

1. The inauguration is on the 12th
Oh well, time's a bitch isn't it!

That, by the way, was much of the same logic used in Bush vs. Gore in 2000.

4. Yeah, but there's, apparently still time when he (Rossi) could
sue the court. If this is true....If this argument...."More votes than registered" can be held to this race, than why not the 2004 Ohio race? If ours is fraud than surely Ohio was fraud!

3. Rossi Please don't investigate
Republicans don't want you to accidentally uncover where those extra votes came from.
