14. Of course since everyone reported the swifties
"The panel said a "myopic zeal" to be the first news organization to broadcast a groundbreaking story about Mr. Bush’s National Guard service was a key factor in explaining why CBS News had produced a story that was neither fair nor accurate and did not meet the organization’s internal standards."

wouldn't this standard basically end all TV news.

9. How About Rather's Questions???
Mission accomplished...network coward and villified by the Right Wing.

While Kerry had to battle lies about if he was in a swift boat in Cambodia or if he shot someone or didn't, the questions about the manchild's military mis-service went completely ignored. Rather asked questions that the "documents" were only part of. He promised to stay on the story, he didn't. He promised to produce more information, he hasn't.

CBS runs with it's media access and corporate perks between its legs.

12. What about that story where the reporter
refused to follow corporate rules and would not lie to the public.....she was fired and I think it was FOX news. The courts backed up FOX news in that regard......

13. After Dan Rather, a liberal, is gone, I will no longer
watch CBS news and this was the last MSM news outlet I was still watching. Advertisers take note, I still am a consumer, so I won't know about your product through any broadcast news shows or any of the main cable news CNN, MSNBC and FOX. I have too many other sources to get news that hasn't be filtered through the ghost of Josef Goebbels.

15. Wow, and at the end of article...
The panel made a number of recommendations for changes, including:

# Appoint a senior Standards and Practices Executive, reporting directly to the President of CBS News, who would review all investigative reporting, use of confidential sources and authentication of documents. Personnel should feel comfortable going to this person confidentially and without fear of reprisal, with questions or concerns about particular reports.

# Foster an atmosphere in which competitive pressure is not allowed to prompt airing of reports before all investigation and vetting is done.

# Allow senior management to know the names of confidential sources as well as all relevant background about the person needed to make news judgments.

# Appoint a separate team, led by someone not involved in the original reporting, to look into any news report that is challenged.

________________________________________________________

So, all investigations must go through the "man."

The "man" gets to know confidential sources so they can be shut down.

Challenged piece gets re-done by peeps that don't want it done in first place.

Sad :-(
