It sounds like it could be French. Now wouldn't that be ironic.

the correct spelling should have been-reagen. ronny never liked being irish since the irish were on the bottom of the social ladder around here in the 20`s and 30`s.his mom was a first christian and the church helped ronnie go to college,i don`t think ronnie was ever a catholic. so is reagen the correct spelling?

Coulter seems to have something to do with farm implements.

From the American Heritage Dictionary…

"A blade or wheel attached to the beam of a plow that makes vertical cuts in the soil in advance of the plowshare."

<Middle English culter, from Old English culter, and Old French coltre both from Latin culter, knife, plowshare. See skel-1 in Indo-European Roots>

Ann the man, turning plowshares into swords.

18. Scottish
The name Coulter as a surname predates its use as the name of a farm implement. I'm not sure how that came about. I always suspected that it was anglicised from the old Teutonic German word Kultir which which means knife blade. Most authorities agree that as a surname it derived from the Barony (now Parish) of Coulter and the Village of Coulter in that Parish located in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The earliest Coulter I have found is Sir Richard de Cultyre in 1207. Coo Castle is an old hill fort that apparently belonged to King Ku (Coo,Cou,Cow,etc.,pronounced Coo as in too), King of Strathclyde about the 9th Century. In the ancient P-Celtic "tir" meant "lands of"; therefore, "Kutir" meant the lands of King Ku. Still in Coulter today the name is pronounced "Cooter", a long "o" with the "l" being silent. The Coulters spread out in southern Scotland and, of course, later to Northern Ireland. They also spread into Northern England. The Coulters were a Border family. Even the Kolters from Germany came from a Scottish soldier named Coulter who settled there during the 30 Years War. The name then became Germanized.

Still in Coulter, Scotland today the name is pronounced "Cooter", a long "o" with the "l" being silent.

Sounds nice and hickish doesn't it? What is a Cooter?
It's an African word that means turtle. Just like goober is an African word that means peanut. So Cooter is a common nickname in the South.

Here's some long lost related "Cooters" of the deep south who love her books.

42. She's Zybogian
Zybog Prime. The fourth planet in an uncharted system about 20 thousand light years off of B-axis from Andromeda, are normally a Keynsian capitalist/welfare planet with equal rights for all. They, however have little patience for social Morgorists (Darwinists in Earth language), and they gave her a Mikasa 2000 (flying saucer, serving for 4 at only 24.95 zenny, and Fat Zat's bargain shack!), and sent her on a vector toward the Planet Hannitia in the Loon-goon sector.

Well, her hair wasn't shaved first, and it's stringiness fell all over the touch sensitive control panels, thus setting her course for Earth, third planet in the Sol system. Since the saucer's power is run by hot air, and she was by herself, with nobody to annoy, it eventually ran out of fuel, and she coasted into the NOrth American continent, instead of the South Pole, where the saucer was headed, but that damn hair got in the way again!

Deemed by the Zybogians not to be mature enough to handle someone of her shrillness, Earthlings proved to be amazingly adaptive. To the Zybogian's suprise, the Earthlings, quickly learned the universal skill of :eyes:, and so they decided not to rescue her.

You can thank them!:puke:

43. Middle English for 'plow'
"Coulter," as in cultivator--a plow blade. You guys don't read enough Chaucer. An exceedingly hot 'coulter' is featured rather prominently (and painfully!) in the most brilliant dirty story in the English language (IMHOP): The Miller's Tale. I believe it is of OF derivation, but it has been in English since some time after the Norman Conquest.

50. Oh! Calcutta!
The Broadway musical (later a movie) takes its title from a naughty French pun. http://www.trashfiction.co.uk/oh_calcutta.html

The title of this revue, which is taken from the title of a painting by the French surrealist painter Clovis Trouille, contains a phonetic French pun: 'Oh! Quelle ... t'as!' Or, freely translated: 'Oh! What a lovely ... you have!'

"Cul t'as" could be the French derivation of the surname "Coulter". Here is a painting of what the French regard as a praiseworthy cul.
