Was there a flags at half staff proclamation that I missed? Or
are some people here in Fort Worth just doing it for their own reasons?

suggested reasons:

death of Shirley Chisholm ?
Tsunami victims?
keeping them down until war is over?
owners of the flags are Democrats?

It is very sporadic, not all flags are flying at half...very strange.

I suspect it is an individual thing, and is related to the tsunami tragedy...

7. 30 days would be to long
and it would put a damper on that Inaugural thingy. (I'm still looking for a good sarcasm smilie thingy ;))

“As a mark of respect for the victims of the Indian Ocean Earthquake and the resulting Tsunamis, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and on all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions from Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, until Friday, Jan. 7, 2005. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same period at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”

The proclamation was signed by President George W. Bush

2. One the way home from work today, I saw someone's flag at half staff.
I don't know what's going on either. Maybe these are liberal groups keeping the flags that way until the Iraq war is over.

6. We noticed it Friday.
We went to the hardware store, and noticed all the flags in town at half mast. My daughter and I were worried that one of our local guys had been killed in combat.

We asked the hardware clerk why the flags were at half-mast. When she told us it was for the tsunami victims, my kid said, "Well, it is about time. I guess * finally noticed the tsunami."

We laughed with the clerk and made some anti-bush remarks.

8. They are here in Plano (TX), also.
But, yeah, some are, others are not. Our school district flags were at half staff.
