Welcome to all the DU Night Newbies
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 05:02 AM by BeHereNow
I can't help but notice there are a great MANY
newbies posting in GD tonight!
WELCOME to DU-
Now confess, how many of you are artist types?
I am, and I find the night time to be the most
condusive to creativity.
My theory about that is linked to Carl Jung's
discussion about creative thinkers.
Think about this:
During the day, everyone is operating
in "concrete thinking" mode- the air
is full of analytical thought and energy.
Now the night time?
That's when everyone is dreaming and the
air is full of stream of consciousness and archetypical
imagery...and we artists, we are the tuning forks and receivers
for that energy.
That's my theory about "night people" anyway.

2. Do I still qualify as a newbie? Yes, I'm an artist type. Professional
for 29 years. Art director, designer, painter. Also an animal person.

3. Well I haven't met ya, so you're new to me!
Welcome-
As I suspected, we have much in common.
Late night people always do.
Tom Waits "Nighthawk at the Diner" is one
of my favorite tracks.

5. But of course he would.
His kid was in an art class with mine years ago.
Several of my musical friends have played in his band.
We night people have a way of being connected in
the most unexpected ways- but then that is the nature of
art and the possibility of creative thinking.
Keeps me sane these days, that fact.

6. He's a very good actor. How cool that you've had a "brush
with insaneness." I've always been a night person whenever schedule allows. Hubby and now my daughter, too, when she can. Hubby's an animator. I'm trying to redirect my hours now, to fit in the day slot for a while, but I'll still not go to bed before 1:30, ever. Lately its been getting later and later, and it gets too close to daylight, and I have to beat the sun to bed, Vampire hours. I'm in Ventura County, CA. Where are you? What kind of artistic outlet do you pursue?

8. Right next door, south on the 101
The city of fallen angels.
Husband is film editor! ROLF
Wonder if they have worked together?
My small world hypothesis would then hold true about
the connectivity of the night tribe people.
Music is my primary medium, but I also
do painting, clay, photography and theatre.
PM me!
I have made some tremendous friends on DU.
You are the newest, obviously.

9. night time is the right time
Artist-type here - background in theatre and occasional writing, currently painting, drawing and digital art.

I like the peace of night. No-one's gonna call after 11pm and no-one's gonna visit, so one is assured of uninterrupted time and space. Summers are hot and humid where I live on the east coast of Oz. I get lethargic and stupid and the house isn't air-conditioned, so night is the cooler, clearer option.

Because most people are sleeping, shops and offices are shut, cars and trucks aren't streaming past and the radio is playing music unbroken by news I feel separate, distinct. When the outside world is quiet I can hear my own thoughts more clearly.

So for me it's basically all about fewer distractions. Well, it would be if I stayed off the internet. :eyes:
