Christian group threatens to SUE if crosses can't line inaugural route
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 08:11 AM by Bluebear
WASHINGTON - A conservative group is threatening to sue the Secret Service for religious discrimination over security guidelines that would ban Christian crosses from lining President Bush's inaugural parade route.

The Secret Service said Monday the guidelines were meant to prohibit large structures that could be used as weapons. Crosses were the only religious symbols on the list of banned items...

The directive also prohibited folding chairs, bicycles and other structures, and displays "such as puppets, papier mache objects, coffins, crates, crosses, theaters, cages and statues."

"The way it's written, it's an unequivocal ban on crosses," said the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition. The group is seeking to have the prohibition overturned in federal court if the Secret Service fails to retract it.

Sure, let em hold or plant crosses on the route.

It can only make Bushco look sooo bad to the world.

Besides, I'm boycotting everything that day, including TV.

like the ones at the protest during the RNC in New York. Flag-draped caskets - one for each of the soldiers who had died at that point. Way more appropriate than crosses if you ask me. I'm wondering what kind of weirdos would like to see crosses along the route. Well, no I'm not.

16. Because you asked!
They are whining that crosses were specifically targeted. However, were it not for them wanting to line the parade route with them it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

"They are not banning large displays of the Star of David or Islamic symbols," Mahoney said. "The only resolution is that they would have to pull 'crosses' out. And they could easily protect religious freedom by saying, 'We ban all structures made of wood.'"

"They are not banning large displays of the Star of David or Islamic symbols," Mahoney said. When was the last time you EVER saw large displays of the Magen David or the Islamic Crescent at a parade?!?! That being said...look for them in this parade! I would not put it past these people to have some of their supports pull a "Parlock," then go to court saying..."see there were other religious icons, but no crosses...we are being persecuted!! Wahhh! Poor pitiful us!!" I say this with all love...FUCK THEM!

28. Let them have the crosses by all means. The pictures will be seen by
every person on the planet that owns a TV. I can hardly wait for it.

They have been pretty thorough though in limiting any demonstration... coffins, statues, papier mache objects (a lot of people have been assassinated with papier mache objects in the past as everybody knows), pretty much everything that might catch a cameraman's eye all forbidden.

And the look of the woman in the picture is REALLY scary. She looks EXACTLY like the females adoring Hitler. The very same look. Scary.

or paper towel rolls, like everyone else or craft foam.

Let them see that their god like leader is really a paranoid fascist at heart because that ruling cannot be overturned.

If they, by some chance, do have it overturned, then I suggest that puppets mimicking Jesus be allowed. I suggest that wooden pentagrams be allowed. I suggest that any wooden symbol of any belief be allowed.

That is the only way to fight the "persecution" mind set here and the one which tacitly says that Christians, being the majority, can tyrannize the minority and have that tyranny sanctified by changing the rules to allow it and no other.

That picture of that woman in the intro, in apparent ecstasy reminds me of Bernini's sculpture, Ecstasy of St. Teresa. St. Teresa of Avila was a supposed "mystic"

There is, imo, a connection, albeit in the sub-conscious, of sexual excstacy in that picture of that Bush woman.

I wouldn't allow anything bigger than a rosary bead sized cross. Even a "regulation" house cross is gun sized. It wouldn't be hard to disguise a shotgun as a cross. They should pick a better religious symbol. Do people in Muslim Theocracies hold up models of Mecca when they have parades?
