Debka: U.S. prepares February attack on Syria
DEBKAfile’s Military and US sources reveal: Bush has ordered US Iraq commander Gen. Casey to prepare February attack on Syria. Assad sends Syria’s chief of staff Gen. Habib to establish command post on Iraqi border. Israel braces for Hizballah backlash.

- Not always the most reliable source of information, but they are right a fair amount of the time.

3. I just realized that if I posted what I actually thought
about our government, not only would I be tombstoned, but the men in black would also show up to take me away to gitmo.

I sure hope it's not true. It would be the most difficult challenge of what it means to be an American; that we (and our drafted children) will be dragged into yet another war furnished by incompetent dispassionate boobs and paid for dearly by each and every one of us. I'd rather pay taxes to Canada.

As I said, if I stated what I really sincerely wished would happen to certain people in our government . . .

5. Before dismissing Debka...break it down....and look at it...
They say -

Military and US sources reveal.....
Bush ordered Gen Casey to prepare....
February....
Syria's Habib to establish command post...
Israel braces....

Based on other statements coming out of the White House...February is a possibility and Syria is targeted in the statements....

The part about Gen Casey could be followed up on...
As can the command posts and Israel.

The plan for Syria has been written about in the PNAC agenda.

What is the EU doing?

9. You don't need to go only to this source.
Some of the fundie religious sites have similar plans posted. Sorry I don't have any links right now. I had to purge my innocent computer of them. But some of the fundies have hinted about the attacks necessary on Syria and Iran because apparently this is how the insurgents are coming into Iraq. Wasn't this in the PNAC plans written in 1998? The plan was to invade Iraq, Syria and Iran after a Pearl Harbor like attack on the United States according to them?

14. Won't Happen
Don't you need approval from congress to go in to a war? Trust me, this won't happen. The level of tin-foil conspiracy theories around here is getting a little out of hand.

16. Do you seriously think congress would refuse to authorize war
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 12:04 PM by Jose Diablo
We have a republican congress with a republican president with a huge fundamentalist base of voters. If Bu*h says on to Syria, then Syria it will be.

As for tinfoil, I grow weary of the labels some use to discount what they themselves refuse to see. Do you think events in the world happen in a vacuum from all other events?

It is dangerous to put a fleet of war ships in a small pond like the gulf. They will be like sitting ducks to surface to surface missiles. To keep the supply line open to Iraq, another is needed. Turkey is out. That only leaves either air or land. And what land would have to be crossed from the med?

Get your head out of your ass. Then maybe you will be able to see.

18. If anything ...
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 12:23 PM by plasticsundance
The US will perform quick aerial strikes upon regions within Syria, but not commit to an entire land attack. There might be skirmishes on the boarders of Iraq/Syria, but that's about all. It wouldn't even be on the scale of Cambodia, but when it happens the US-State-controlled-media-filter will spin it that the strikes were necessary based upon reliable Pentagon officials stating that the insurgency is receiving assistance from certain parts of Syria. Then they'll go on about how Syria should work with the US and get rid of these known terrorists.

In other words, the same old Orwellian US bullshit. Debka is just trying to stir up a neocon wet dream.

21. I don't know how it will be spun or made to happen
all I see is a dangerous tactical situation in Iraq with the high probability of the troups in Iraq getting cut-off from the current supply line and no way to open that supply line. That only leaves one other way to keep supplies flowing.

I agree with your assessment of Debka though. They are little more that Lukid shills, like our own Fox.

19. Ponder this one.
Has anything in the last 4 years followed what is in the constitution.

This administration and congress has used the constitution for toilet paper.

Fact is, even Vietnam was not a declared war and thats been 30 years ago.

20. Oooooh, 9 posts and already a "tin-foil" leaves his fingertips.
If someone cannot post a whole bunch of times without educating us DU maroons on "the level of tin-foil conspiracy theories", then Houston, we have a problem.

What's next, "we" need to move to the center?

22. Yes, there is a lot of tinfoil crap and it needs to stop
When you post something like Bush to attack Syria without any back up you make yourself look like a tinfoil conspiracy theorist. This not only damages the image of yourself but also of everyone on this message board. I would have absolutely no problem if the topic was about the possibility of attacking Syria and what a bad idea that would be; but when you respond with "oh, its the end of the US and end of the world" I have a real problem with it as it makes all of us look bad.

They are like butts, everyone has one.

And your opinion about what is good, is just an opinion. To bad about your 'real problem'. You should work on it.

24. I guess, but you need to challange those opinions
If you leave those things unchallanged it will look like everyone here supports there things. I know you get upset when someone cries tinfoil conspiracy but the fact of the matter is that a lot of that goes on here because of threads like these.

26. With all due respect ....
Pawel K

The person that originally posted this topic qualified within the post of being dubious of Debka.

However, when you have a stalwart from the Bush Sr. Administration in the name of Lawrence Eagleburger going on the US-State-controlled-MSM, stating publicly that if the current Bush Administration goes into Syria it is grounds for impeachment.

When even Lawrence Eagleburger is ready to go on record with something amounting to a threat to the sitting president, it should raise some red flags. He wouldn't attack Junior publicly, if he hadn't a real concern about the intent and rational of this current Administration.

Jose Diablo has merely raised some valid considerations. No harm done.

But even from here I know that you President does not need congress approval to go to war. Why .... Read the bill it was introduce to give that power to the President. I dont have reference but I think many here will tell you thats so.

27. DEBKA is SH*T
I can't believe people STILL link to that site.

Do yourself a favor and go through DEBKA archives and see how many of their news articles actually turned out to be factual.

I would guess a 30% accuracy rate.
