Gay Civil Rights Bill Passes Illinois Senate

Civil rights protections for gays and lesbians could be enacted today. The measure squeaked through in the Senate Monday night and moves to the House where passage is virtually assured.

The legislation would amend the Illinois Human Rights Act to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment, housing, public accommodations and credit.

Gay rights advocates have been pressing for the law to be passed for nearly a decade. A recent poll sponsored by Equality Illinois shows that a wide majority of Illinois residents support granting civil rights protections to gays.

It will not affect me as I am a het, but it sure is nice to hear that there is a legislature, anywhere in the United States, that is willing to stand up to the religious bigotry of the republican party.

There has been nothing but disturbing news lately as the tide of conservative christian fascism drowns our nation.

Anytime the civil liberties of one group are threatened, everyones are threatened. That is why I joined the ACLU.

I have an immigrant friend from Malta who is a hard core republicrap. He is in total support of a constitutional Gay Marriage Ban. When I asked him why it was so important to him, he said "because the institution of marriage is being threatened." Well, I continued, did you know that blacks in our country were not allowed to marry in the bible belt for the same reason? "No, he replied. But, he continued, It is an indignity to allow homosexuals the same rights as married people. Hmm .... I replied. That argument was also applied to blacks.

Then I told him that in the bible belt, people had to be third generation "Americans" before they were allowed to vote, and in some cases, own land. That would mean that your great-great grand children would be the first Busuttils to vote and own land in your family. Why not take it all the way? It only makes more opportunities for me.

Suddenly, his whole demeanor changed. Apparently, it is an entirely different story when YOU are the one getting screwed.

I. Although homosexuality has in these last days become more and more acceptable to society, it is nonetheless evil and wicked in the sight of God.

II. When God created man and woman He intended that there remain a respect within His people for the distinction He had made between the two sexes.

A. Homosexuality became widely practiced in Old Testament times.

It is the same word used in Genesis 4:1, in which it is recorded that "Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain ..." B. It was still common during the time of the first century church.

C. Scripture even indicates that, in the end times, the homosexual way of life will become openly practiced and generally accepted by society as a whole.

III. How serious an offense is it?

A. Under the Law, the act was considered "worthy of death."

B. Scripture clearly says those guilty of this transgression are unfit to inherit the kingdom of God.

IV. It is an abomination to God.

A. The sin is self-defiling.

B. It is unnatural (Romans 1:27, 31; 2 Timothy 3:3), and to accept or encourage this way of life is "contrary to sound doctrine" (1 Timothy 1:10).

C. God abhors it!

D. Believers are expected to "put aside" such evil practices of their former way of life.

E. Because they refused to abandon their wicked ways "God gave them up." (They became reprobate.)

V. It is possible to be set free from the bondage of this offense. The sin is not unforgivable.

People in prison for creating a "graven" image?
People in prison for not "honoring their fathers?"
People in prison for not keeping the sabbath holy?
People in prison for committing adultry?
People in prison for coveting their neighbors goods?
A nation of blind, toothless, armless, people with mutilated sex organs because they masturbated?

Frankly, I have a better idea.
