Crazy Idea - A DU'er for President
We need a common person to run for President in 2008. We need to ged rid of the image that we need a Wealthy Politician for President. My crazy idea, let's help a DU'er become President. If a 1000 DU'ers donated a 100 dollars, this person would be off to a great start, and of course the other Democrats would have to realize that this isn't some 'Elitist' running, it's a common everyday person running. BTW, I am not going to nominate myself.

2. How about first we make it possible for one to win.
Then we worry about running one.

8. No, that wouldnt help at all really.
Currently the two parties are entrenched in our system. Which is bad, but not really that much of a problem.

It just means that until we can change the system we must approach parties as brokers.

The shortest path for us from here to a better tommarow is to build up a progressive grassroots movement. Have progressives win democratic primaries across the country. Take over state and eventually national party structures.

It wont be easy certainly, but it is infinately easier than trying to change the system from the outside before you can do anything.

Once we have gained power through the party strucutre we can try and fix the structure so that it is more democratic in the future.

20. I guess I was
responding to the fact that the dems are listening more to the right than to their own people. If DU had its own candidate she/he should emerge from the people-hence the name. I also doubt the Dems would fund a DUer for president-but I bet there are enough here to raise some startup capital to fund their own candidate.

and offers concrete solutions to problems and actions to help achieve those solutions. I haven't seen anyone in the entire realm of the progressive movement, other than perhaps Arianna Huffington, Howard Dean, and Wes Clark (to some degree-but not to the degree that's needed) who does that. Most are wonderful and pointing out and uncovering what's wrong, but they don't take any real action to change anything. In short; we need someone who is effective at true "leadership".

7. Yep.
There's too much worry over saying the 'right things.' We need someone who will just tell the truth, no matter how painful. We don't need someone who worries over what is best for their political future. We need someone to rescue America, if it's not already too late.

10. better to have any everyday, common liberal than any past president
as far as I can tell, every single president we have ever had has been a power hungry egomanic. At least the ones I can remember.

16. Anybody who posts on a political web site would be unelectable for
president.

Every last post on the web site would be pulled out as evidence of how they should not be elected, regardless of the poster.

14. How about the American Revolution Party?
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 06:09 PM by Heaven and Earth
Dedicated to the proposition that all are created equal and endowed with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Nah, it would be way too radical, the mainstream would never go for it:)
