Hearts and minds
This sort of behavior will go a long way to improving our troops' image with the Iraqis. I'm going to try to forward this to someone in the Marine Corps, this clown should get his head handed to him.

2. I hadn't seen it before
This is how our soldiers disrespect the people they were sent to "liberate"? No wonder they're throwing bullets and RPG's and mortar shells instead of candy and flowers.
Was this moron ever reprimanded? I'm still going to forward this to my representatives and anyone else I can think of, this is disgusting.

4. Thanks,
I read the accompanying Snopes post (love that site) and am glad that the marines looked into it. Who knows what the original sign said but it sounds like whatever it was it was inappropriate. The picture was taken from this site:
http://www.zonaeuropa.com/01467.htm
Which contained pictures much more disturbing than this.

5. I read snopes, too...
... and I still think it's for real. That is true, dark, sick, Marine humor. It's the only thing that keeps you sane.

During the Southeast Asian War Games during the 60's and early 70's (Our motto: "Hey... we came in second!) One Marine in our outfit got a package from a buddy who had rotated home. Package contained two cans of Alpo and a note..."Eat hearty, animal!" Dark.

If you are shocked that a Marine would do something as crude as getting a kid to hold a funny(?) sign, you ain't been watching what little real news slips out of Iraq.

I'd have preferred Alpo to a can of ham and lima beans ;). Actually, with a little hot sauce, or mixed in with a chili lrrp ration it might not have been too bad.

7. Fake
It's a fake. I saw this same pick with a different message on the board like three or four times.

On one it was talking about someone being "faggots."

10. Did You Read the same Snopes Entry I Did?
I love Barb Mikkelson:

"LCpl. Boudreaux has told reporters that the sign in the picture originally read "Welcome Marines!" but was altered by someone else. He has not, however, (publicly) produced a version of the original photograph or identified who might have altered it. (If the photo was indeed manipulated, someone involved in the process had to be sufficiently acquainted with Boudreaux to be able to match his name and rank with his picture.)"

Plus, the initial response was that the sign WAS real, but was a joke. And, since the Marines have never come out and said the message was photoshopped, I think it makes sense to say it wasn't.

I've known alot of young soldiers, and this is exactly the type of stupid thing they would do. My BIL was an Army officer during the Gulf War, and was also in Kuwait for a while, and he said this kinda stuff happened all of the time.

there was lots of chatter on DU at the time this came out, and I believe those on here that are graphics software experts determined it was real.
