Prince Harry urged to visit Auschwitz
Prince Harry urged to visit Auschwitz

Simon Jeffery and agencies
Thursday January 13, 2005

Prince Harry was today urged to visit Auschwitz after his apology for wearing a Nazi officer's uniform to a fancy dress party appeared to do little to calm the controversy.

The California-based Simon Wiesenthal Centre, one of the largest international Jewish human rights organisations, said the prince should attend a ceremony being held at the death camp later this month to mark the 60th anniversary of its liberation.

1. damn sight good plan
for this little twit that ain't no "kid". Hell he's 20 years old for Christ's sake. I sure knew wtf a Nazi was when I was 20. Let him off the hook temporarily - just long enough to visit Auschwitz! Next stop after that Dachau!

3. That's what I said too, when I saw the picture of him.
What a little twit!

I thought the royals were trained rigorously in protocol and manners. Doesn't he know whom he represents when he runs around like that?

Genocide is no joke. If one of my middle class American children had taken the notion to dress like Hitler for a costume party, I would have hit them upside the head.

But my children are intelligent. Maybe this prince is the dumb one in the family.

I want to see many public apologies from this young man.

5. well, he isn't going to university...
he didn't have the scores, so he's going to the military academy for a career in the army. And it's been said that he had help getting good enough scores for Sandhurst (the military academy)

William, otoh, earned the scores that got him into St. Andrews University

8. not even the British Army wants Harry now
His behavior has shamed the British Army, oh my!

What will Harry do except wait for the 'throne'. :puke:

11. uh..
To my knowledge the Army hasn't made any official statement...if they have, feel free to post a link.

And as for waiting for the throne...that'll be a long wait, as he's not in the direct line of succession. As long as William doesn't die before him without any children, he'll never be king.

6. they are a batch of inbreds
with IQs that are no higher than 90 ... they fit right in with the scheme of things these days - the stupider the better (not that anything better can nor could be expected given the genetic make-up).

This isn't about brains, it is about genocide and obviously Harry doesn't give a damn and endorses it with his actions.

2. I find it offensive that he would go after his behavior
First off to make light of the death of millions.Secondly then to go use a death camp for publicity is disgusting to me.
That does not lesson his actions. It slaps in the face the millions that died at that site.

4. naw let him visit these "camps"
where not even a damn bird will land till this very day! He needs to learn what it is about and just maybe (just maybe) he'll happen to notice why not even a bird will land in Dachau!

Screw Harry the arrogant twit that he is. This will be his legacy - a drunken little 'aristocrat' that does Seig Heil's when no one watches.

7. the point, I think,
would be to let him see what the nazis did, and educate him on just how unacceptable his behavior was

9. How can anybody that is even semi educated not know what the nazi did?
and yet still choose to mock it by donning a nazi uniform?especially a
person from uk.They saw first hand what hitler/nazis did not only to the jews but also to england.I think using the deaths of millions just to buff your own image is not an education. Its an outrage.

10. I'm sure he learned about it...in school
But I think seeing the camps in person might help the lesson sink in.

12. I can understand your point.
I have seen pictures of normandy in books etc but being there in person is totally different.I went there to pay respects.
I respect your point. However what I am outraged at this trips purpose is not to eductate but merely to smooth over a gaffe. If he is so uncaring as to mock in the first place then I really do not see how his going there without any intentions other then getting his ass out of trouble is going to benefit anyone. Not to the survivors not to the memory of the victims.

13. I agree if that's the reason
But I don't think that the original suggestion came from Prince Harry, the palace or his 'handlers'. I think it came from people who were unhappy about it.

If he's going just for the PR, I agree, he shouldn't. But if he'll take the time to really look at it, it could be very moving and educational for him.
