3. "But that wasn't a rape! That was a Bible lesson,
and besides, women are just temptress whores, it says so in the Bible, so I'm not responsible and come on, really, women are supposed to submit to men, especially authority men and this was totally okay. She obviously seduced me! Filthy, terrible, awful little sinner that she is. My penis makes me a bad man. That's what Jesus said."

they even had a web site, something like oruout.....for a short period the ORU administration was somewhat sympathetic; then it totally froze them out and dropped any link

some children of some professors and a professor were rumored to be gay (my info came from an ORU student who was dealing with the possiblity that he might be gay)

Edited on Fri Jan-14-05 08:03 PM by KamaAina
not "Christian" school. As though Tulsa had a huge roster of private prep schools like Andover or what have you.

Another subtle way the lib'rul media manipulates us, sort of like failing to mention the party affiliation of a pol who gets busted for DUI, gun possession, whatever, if he happens to be a repuke.

Edit: Tulsa may possibly have some private, independent high schools, but it is doubtful there are any in much smaller, outlying Broken Arrow. Why not just say "Christian school"? Oh, right...

and charged with rape. It doesn't say wether the 16yo was willing and he got charged because she was underage.

Regardless, when a muslim drowns his daugther in a pool for having unmarried sex, I don't start making fun of their profit muhammed and insulting all muslims.

Guess it takes a certian kind to go after jesus everytime there is a christian child molester. Since most of the american population are christians, I would expect most molesters to be also.

33. no 16 year old is capable of being willing
because he is manipulating her for his personal gratification.
This isn't about sex per se but POWER OVER to make up for
personal feelings of inadequacy. I was a child advocate and I
met more "Christian" men who were raping their
charges than I could believe. They were all in positions of
power over these children and the psychological damage to
these kids is enormous. It will probably lead to the next
generation of perpertators.

39. Are you serious??? I'm sure you THINK you are, but...
...are you even remotely in touch with reality?

To poll the assembled DU delegation:

1) Were you sexually-active when you were 16? (Y/N)
2) If you answered "Y" to #1, do you now feel that you were so incapable of making a decision for yourself that said sexual activity constituted being raped?

(Please note that I am not asking whether or not, using 20/20 hindsight, you now wish you had waited before having sex. I'm asking whether you now think you were helpless to make your own decision -- whether it turned out good or bad -- to have sex at that time.)

42. Logically irrelevant...
If a group that is in the majority of the general population makes up a majority of a subgroup, nothing can be drawn from that connection, except that the law of averages applies.

Now, if the majority of death row inmates were of a group that was a minority of the general population (say, African-Americans), that might be worth noting. Even so, more than one conclusion could be drawn from that data -- one person could claim, for instance, that this "proves" that African-Americans are more violent and "lawless" than whites, while another person could point to the same evidence as "proof" that the criminal justice system is biased against African-Americans. But when there isn't an anomaly in the statistical makeup of a subgroup, there's little that can be rationally claimed about the situation.

26. OMG! ... Here's yet another one!
(From the National Stonewall Democrats blog site)

In October, President Bush signed the Working Families Tax Relief Act into law during a trip to Des Moines, IA.

(snip)

In his speech, President Bush chose to spotlight Mike and Sharla Hintz of Clive, IA. During his remarks, Bush celebrated the traditional marriage of Mike and Sharla, noting that the day marked the couple's 13th wedding anniverary. Afterwords, Mike - a local Assemblies of God youth pastor - told reporters that he supported President Bush for more than economic reasons.

Mike Hintz was proud of President Bush's stand on values. The White House was equally proud of Mike Hintz, hence the fact that he is still highlighted as the top story on their economic issues page at WhiteHouse.gov. What a swell guy Mike is.

Yesterday, KCCI Des Moines ran a follow-up piece on the Republican family values of youth pastor Mike: First Assembly Of God Church Fires Reverend Over Sexual Exploitation Charges.

28. One issue is that private school teachers don't have to be
state certified so if one gets fired for inappropriate behavior, including but especially sexually inappropriate behavior--sexual harassment, having a physical or romantic relationship with a student, there is no central database that potential employers can check.

States do revoke teachers' certificates for such misconduct and when they do that information is available when the individual seeks a license in another state or applies for a job.

if they involved preists.

I have often wondered if those sensationalized stories about the catholics were a pointed attack on catholics. Stories about similar abuses by protestant fundamentalists never make national headlines.

Is it time for a huge class action suit against the Baptists?

About 85% of Americans are religious and most of those are Christian. It's pretty easy to find examples of great or horrible behavior with numbers like those.

To do either is just spin.

38. Ezekiel 33:18
18 "When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die therein."

There is nothing wrong with those here who in your view are "bashing" Christians. The path is clear and those who proclaim to be "Christian" while violating every aspect of their "faith" will be judged, by their fellow humans and ultimately by God.

As for your view that one must remain demure or acquiesce to those who proclaim to be "fundamentalists" in order to open a dialogue, well that strikes me as naive at best and most likely a path towards more TaliBornAgain restrictions. This line of thought is quite similar to those in our party who advocate moving more towards the right to win elections at the expense of those in our party who deserve the protections we have fought so hard to put into place. If you are truly interested in opening a dialogue with the "fundamentalists" you need to engage them on their own turf using language and beliefs they understand, something I have been doing for the last few months. Simply hoping that by playing nice that they will come to see a more enlightened view is to await disaster.
That said, I am interested to hear what your specific definition of a "fundamentalist" is? Is it a broad stroke, or do you have a specific framing?
