Town seeks to recall board member for not standing for the pledge
I just received this e-mail from gampac, the Godless Americans PAC:

Stand on the Pledge spurs recall effort

The above-named article, posted at
http://www.godlessamericans.org/pacarticles.php was written in early
December of last year by Denver Post staff writer Monte Whaley. It
concerns a town board member, David Habecker, who faces a recall
election for refusing to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance in
objection to the "under God" phrase. I spoke to Whaley on Monday
(1/17/2005) and learned that a recall vote has been scheduled for
February 15. Whaley said he's had e-mails both for and against
recalling Habecker.

When you read the article, note that the arguments of Habecker's
critics do not address the issue-separation of church and state. One
argument is that "Habecker's actions show a disrespect for the
flag." Habecker actually supports the flag, but not the entanglement
of religion and government.

If the voters in this town in fact recall Habecker, they will be
violating Article VI, Clause 3, of the U.S. Constitution, which
states:

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members
of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial
Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall
be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but
no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any
Office or public Trust under the United States."

Denver Post staff writer Monte Whaley can be reached at 303-726-8674
or mwhaley@denverpost.com.

1. Habecker Should Do Something Constructive Then. His Actions BEGGED

the knuckledraggers to penalize him.

Individuals pick and choose when they're going to stand and fight.

Habecker doesn't seem to be very good at figuring out the when and where.

Now he can fight the recall....

6. 1st- I Explicitly Mentioned Picking An Appropriate Time/Place
#2 There's more than one way to stand up for your beliefs.

Doesn't sound like Habecker will be standing up for much in the near future.

But then DU seems to have a Kamikaze fetish.

4. conform or you get what you deserve
walk lock-step, go along to get along - that's the tact that has been failing the democratic party for years now.

7. Hmm, Where Did My Post Mention Lock-Step? It DOES Mention
finding appropriate time, place and means of making an EFFECTIVE protest or statement... rather than just shooting your wad all at once and getting recalled by Fundies.

2. The inclusion of G-d in the pledge is disrespectful to G-d.
