8. MSM Just Phones It In These Days...
You rarely see an independent field report from our intrepid media in Baghdad. They all are hunkered down in hotels and get their "information" from military types sitting in even more removed locations inside the Green Zone. Except for some courageous stringers and European journalists, we have no clue what really is going on in Iraq other than what our state controlled media puts out there.

This happened in Nam as well. "We have to be winning, we're killing so many"...was the assumption, until January, 1968 when Tet kicked our collective asses. Few remember how devestating that offensive was...and how it finally woke the country up to the mess Vietnam had become...and that was with a media that was able to travel into the countryside and show the real war. I suspect we have a real "surprise" waiting for us sometime soon in Iraq, and it won't be pretty...with a lot more of our young people dead in the process.

While it's shameful we got involved in the first place, the continued arrogance of this regime just compounds the hatred and problems every day. Sadly, our myopic media can't see beyond waiving flags and plastering yellow ribbons.
