Supposedly we have about 3 million folks in jail. Probably half are for non-violent drug busts. Since what we are doing in Iraq is illegal, let's just send criminals there to fight. We can give these folks amnesty just as we are giving citizenship to non-Americans in the service.

As a veteran, I am not sure mixing these troops into non-criminal units would work that well. Not sure this idea is good, just wanted to throw out the idea for discussion.

1. They've been given the option already
I know of two cases where men indicted of crimes were given the choice last year to do prison time...or join the "volunteer" army.

Word of advice to the rightwingnuts (who are only armchair warriors, of course; they're not lining up to enlist to die for their bush-god's lies)...DON'T JAYWALK. ;)

3. Though it's officially denied, I know they did it
during WW2 - my dad was in San Quentin for three years (murder) and got out by joining the Army and went to Germany. He lived, his time was up and they turned him loose. Actually, he was loose upon the countryside as soon as he joined.
And here I am.
