"Bush vows to spread democracy"... (cnn) (pic of bush included)
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 06:12 PM by egoprofit

... which basically means that he has no plans of stopping, right? he's going to try to force other countries into Democracy? what the fuck is wrong with this guy? shouldn't he worry about what's going on here in the US instead of wrecking our reputation and depleting our military resources?

in my 22 years of life i don't really understand government or what a president's real duty is. i find myself now, though, questioning my country's leaders and trying to make sense of all of this.

i'm just confused that's all. thanks for reading.

1. "Spread democracy," my sweet pink ass.
What he wants to spread is capitalism, which -- contrary to the assumptions of many Americans, especially Republicans -- is not by any means synonymous with democracy. And he'll spread it whether the recipient countries want it or not.

2. I always think: "Bush is spreading VD", whenever I hear him say that
Seriously

Him saying anything about democracy makes it sound dirty and nasty

3. You're not alone....
when I look back, I now realize that all I learned in school about my country was all bullchit. Our goal was never to help other countries eradicate poverty, help them get a better standard of living. Our goal, as we see today, was to dominate the world by keeping them in devastating poverty and bring them to their knees through military might. I feel very sad about the state of this country.

8. Oh yeah....spread democracy
by force. It's SUCH a great idea. Why doesn't he stick to democracy here at home - it's questionable whether we still have it or not.

I don't like his version of "democracy", nor do I like the way he spreads it. He needs to be stopped.

11. Why do most people think that...
democracy can be imposed from the top down? I don't think it can be. I think it's something that has to develope from the bottom up and be fought for. If there was a country that could have developed democracy and didn't it's Russia. They are back-stepping about as fast as they can and they aren't bothered about it. They have no background in democracy unless you count that little time that Aleksander Kerenski was in power.
